Västmanland is bordered in the south by the two lakes Mälaren and Hjälmaren. The landscape of Västmanland was very important in the past, as the more than 20,000 archaeological finds testify. Here you will find exciting experiences. On a self-drive holiday with Risskov you can experience the historic area and the beautiful nature.
In the north-western part of Västmanland you will find the steel town of Fagersta. Many of the towns in the area have had mining operations and there are many exciting experiences in store. Visit Engelsbergs bruk, for example, which was one of the world's largest ironworks and is located 10 km from Fagersta. Also visit Sala, where you can visit the Sala silver mine, as well as several other interesting museums such as the Aguéli art museum, which has an interesting Munch collection, the tractor museum or the glass museum.
What's more, there's no doubt that the Swedish countryside is the area's main attraction. The varied scenery from the Mälaren plain to the dark forests in the north is quite stunning. Activities include canoeing on the Svartåen, swimming in the sparkling lakes, a challenging hike or a pleasant bike ride. There are plenty of opportunities to experience the Sweden of yesteryear.
