Morsum Cliff

Go on a summer holiday with Risskov Biliferie and visit the beautiful Morsum Klev which is a 1.800 meter long and up to 21 meter high cliff on Sylt. It stretches from the Hindenburg dam in the east to the village of Morsum in the west. This is the only place in present-day Germany where the dividing line between Pliocene and Miocene strata can be seen. Morsum Klev contains layers of kaolin sand, limonite sand, forgotten clay and alumina, among others, and has been protected since 1923. According to local legend, the red colour of the cliff comes from an underground people who lived here in the distant past. At the foot of the cliff, especially after storm surges, you may be lucky to find fossils of snails, mussels and fish. The area around the cliff also contains a large number of Bronze Age burial mounds. Find child-friendly hotels nearby at Risskov and take the whole family on an active holiday in beautiful nature.
