Saga Hotell

The railway station is around a 10-minute walk away, making the hotel a convenient base for exploring the town and taking trips into the surrounding Dalarna countryside.

Things to see and do

There is plenty to explore beyond the town of Borlänge. For a walk, head to Frostbrunnsdalen Nature Reserve, around 5 km southwest of town. Paths lead through a leafy valley with natural springs, birdsong and places to stop for a picnic. In summer, nearby Lake Runn offers swimming and kayaking, with kayak rentals available in Torsång.

On the shores of Lake Runn, Ornässtugan makes an enjoyable outing for anyone interested in Swedish history. This striking timber building is associated with Gustav Vasa’s escape from the Danes. Join a guided museum tour, stroll around the grounds and finish with coffee and homemade cake at the café.

A trip to nearby Falun offers another perspective on Dalarna’s past. At Falu Gruva, part of the UNESCO-listed Falun World Heritage Site, guided tours take visitors 67 meters underground through the old copper mine’s passages and chambers. The mine museum provides more insight into the people who worked here and the industry that shaped the region.

For a winter holiday, Romme Alpin lies around 13 km outside Borlänge and offers 34 slopes for a day of downhill skiing. Lake Runn is also known for winter skating when ice conditions allow, giving visitors another way to enjoy the surrounding scenery.
