Dalarna

Take a self-drive holiday to Dalarna, a historically important area in central Sweden that borders Norway to the west. It was here that Gustav Vasa travelled between the towns of Sälen and Mora in the 1500s - the man who later gave his name to the popular Vasaloppet, a cross-country race held on the first Sunday in March each year, which attracts athletes from all over the world.

But Dalarna is known for much more than the Vasaloppet. Here you can go on a mini holiday in the scenic areas around the region's largest lake, Siljan, and explore the hilly landscape, which is suitable for both nature and sports enthusiasts.

In Nusnäs near Mora you can see how the famous Dala horse is made and maybe buy one as a souvenir. Or how about buying a genuine Mora knife, which comes in every imaginable shape.

If you like cultural experiences, take a trip to Falun, where you can discover the famous copper mines, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you can get a fascinating insight into how miners used to work mining copper in the old days.
