Kalmar

Kalmar destination image

Kalmar is a Swedish university city and also the city that connects Öland to the mainland via the 6,072 meter long Öland Bridge. Most of central Kalmar is located on the island of Kvarnholmen, where you will find the county museum and city hall. Kvarnholmen is also the Swedish district with the most listed buildings. But the city has not always been located here; in 1640, the decision was made to move the center of Kalmar from what is now the old town to the island of Kvarnholmen, where parts of the old city wall still remain. The city has many other attractions such as Kalmar Cathedral, the water tower in Berga, the old water tower and of course Kalmar Castle.
