Oslo

Oslo destination image

The Norwegian capital has many interesting museums and sights, so you'll have plenty of time to spend here. The beautiful city by the fjord is a great destination in winter and summer, as it offers many activities all year round. In Oslo you can also go shopping in the old town, and there are many cosy cafés and restaurants with both Norwegian and international cuisine in the city centre.

One of the city's biggest attractions is the world's largest sculpture park, Vigelandsparken. Vigelandsparken has about 200 sculptures in different materials and the park was founded already in the 1940s. Entrance to the park is free and it is the most visited attraction in Norway, so it is a must-see when in Oslo. Here you can admire a 17-metre-high sculpture made up of the whole 121 as well as the many other sculptures in the park.

Visit the Oslo Opera House, an impressive white marble building that opened in 2008. Inspired by an iceberg rising out of the water, the opera house is located down to the Oslofjord. You can also see Akershus Castle and fortress. The fortress is strategically located at the entrance to Oslo Harbour and has survived several sieges over the years. The fortress dates back to the Middle Ages, but was rebuilt by Christian IV, and Queen Margrethe I lived in the castle for the first part of her life. In the castle you can see the eerie dungeon, which was also used as a prison during the Second World War. There are many things to see in Oslo, and the city's T-train and buses connect the city, making it easy to get around and see all the city's sights.
