UNESCO Global Geopark Odsherred

The beautiful landscape of Odsherred is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and can call itself UNESCO Global Geopark Odsherred - as the first Danish geopark ever. The inclusion is primarily due to a unique glacial landscape whose geological conditions are of crucial cultural and historical importance. The impressive ice age landscape has attracted painters for 200 years, who have depicted dramatic landscapes. For the same reason, you can visit numerous galleries and art museums in the area.

The hilly glacial landscape with its many impressive views and unspoilt natural areas is also ideal for an active holiday, whether you prefer cycling or hiking.

Cycling routes in Odsherred

Odsherred is a bicycle-friendly area with many marked bicycle routes, such as the Sejerø Bugt route and the Urokse trail.

If you're taking the family on a tour, the 40 km Fjords path by Isefjorden is the perfect destination: only small inclines - and always something beautiful to look at. You'll find completely flat stretches around the dammed Lammefjord.

If you prefer a varied trail, take a 30 km ride around the hills of Veddinge and Vejrhøj - even seasoned cyclists can find the low gears here!

Odsherred

Odsherred has sea and water on three sides. That's why the light is special, and in clear weather there are beautiful views as far as the eye can see - for example from Sjællands Odde out over Sejerø Bay and from Klintebjerg out over Kattegat. The hilly landscape is also home to many burial mounds and other ancient monuments. At Havnsø at the bottom of Nekselø Bay lies Vesterlyng, which is Zealand's largest heathland. Vesterlyng is protected, but you can swim at the fine beach and roam freely everywhere. There is also easy access to the beautiful and hilly Røsnæs north of Kalundborg. A hiking trail leads you along the high cliffs and almost to the lighthouse. The tip of Røsnæs is Zealand's westernmost point with more hours of sunshine than many other places in the country.

Dragsholm Castle

It is possible to visit the castle and enjoy the good food in the restaurants or join one of the historical tours where you might be lucky to meet one of the ghosts. In recent years, Dragsholm Castle has built up an outstanding reputation as one of the country's best dining establishments. Whether you enjoy a meal in the gourmet restaurant "Slotskøkkenet" or in the more popular "Lammefjordens Spisehus", you are sure to get acquainted with the "taste of Odsherred". Gastronomically, the castle has created a unique kitchen concept with chef Claus Henriksen at the helm.

Rørvig Strand

Rørvig Strand er en af Sjællands bedste badestrande. Den brede sandstrand ud mod Kattegat er omgivet af klitter og Rørvigs flotte sandflugtsplantage. Ved stranden er der stor parkeringsplads med kiosk og toiletfaciliteter og i sommerferien har stranden et bemandet livreddertårn.

Odsherred Zoo

Odsherred Zoo is an oasis on 14 acres of land in the middle of beautiful Northwest Zealand, where you can get up close to 600 exotic animals spread over 100 species in Denmark's first zoo and rescue centre. As something very special, the park also offers a safe and permanent home to exotic animals that have been through hardships in their lives.

Kalundborg

Discover the beautiful Kalundborg on West Zealand with Risskov. Don't miss out on this beautiful Danish gem of a city, which is also a cruise destination for British cruise ships. The old part of Kalundborg is called 'Højbyen', and is one of Denmark's best preserved medieval towns, with buildings dating back to both the 15th and 16th centuries. In the city centre you will find many restaurants and cafés and if you feel like doing some shopping, a walk up Kordilgade or Skibbrogade is highly recommended. Here you'll find a really good and varied selection of specialist shops selling everything from bicycles to health food. Just off the shopping street is the beautiful Church of Our Lady.

The Museum of the Viking Ships

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the cathedral has been the burial place of kings and queens for centuries. The city is also known for its music festival: Roskilde festival, which takes place in June/July at the animal show square.
