Hundested

If you fancy a self-drive holiday in bright North Zealand with its many beaches, museums and castles, Hundested is a great place to start.

Hundested is a harbour town located on the Halsnæs peninsula. It is a small town full of charm and personality. It is easy to get to by car or by train.

It's a pleasure to adventure through the narrow streets of the port city, where art and amazing crafts pop up from the most unexpected places.

Trolling down to the harbour to enjoy the view, you'll be greeted by the salty sea air mingling with the fresh scent of freshly caught fish just offloaded from the small fishing boats moored alongside.

If you have children with you, they will soon be on the quay with bucket, line and net. This is where crabs can be caught. This is the perfect place to take a break, while the lively sound of laughter contrasts with the calm lapping of the waves.

If you like sand sculptures, come to the Sand Sculpture Festival, where you can walk among the most amazing sculptures.

If you like ships and the Danish harbour environment, pack your car and go. Hundested harbour is a popular destination for many yachtsmen and women. They come here to enjoy the feel of a real Danish harbour and to show off their fine boats. This means that the harbour can sometimes be an incredibly pleasant place with lots of visitors.

And if you walk here on a summer's day under the warm sun with an ice cream in your hand, you'll quickly strike up a conversation with the many captains who like to enjoy a cold beer or a happy white wind on deck.

If you like adventure and excitement, you should visit Knud Rasmussen's House.

You can find this special house in the fantastic shore area a little northeast of Hundested harbour. Here you will get an insight into the life of Denmark's famous polar explorer, who planned his incredible expeditions from this very house, which went as far as Greenland and the Arctic. The house is an unusually quirky one, fit for an unusual man.

And if you fancy a spot of shopping, Hillerød is only 34 km away.
