Go on a self-drive holiday in Jutland and discover the many beautiful and exciting cities in the beautiful South West Jutland. One of the many experiences in the area is the town of Varde, which is located about 15 km north of Esbjerg. The town is located on the Varde Å river, and the centre of the town is very reminiscent of an old market town. Varde is therefore also a popular tourist town, especially in summer, and as it is not far from the North Sea, the town is also an excellent starting point for exploring South West Jutland and the coastline by car.

In Varde you can combine an active holiday with cultural events and of course a beach holiday on the west coast. At the same time, Varde has a lot to offer its visitors, and there are experiences in store for all ages in the small town, which is home to around 15,000 inhabitants. Varde is located in the middle of the best nature that South West Jutland has to offer. If an active holiday is therefore high on your wish list, there are fantastic cycling and mountain biking routes of varying degrees of difficulty and length in Varde and the surrounding area. There are both routes for the more experienced riders and routes for families with children, all scattered around Varde's unique countryside. There are also many beautiful walking routes and to name just a few, the trip to Isbjerg near Varde is a really lovely nature experience. Although Isbjerg is no more than 30 metres above sea level, it's a good idea to pause and take a deep breath while you enjoy the view from the top of Isbjerg over Varde town. On a good day you can just make out Esbjerg. Stop by Dinnsens Skovpark near Aslev for a family outing with the kids, who will also appreciate the park's playground.But Varde town has plenty of other things to offer too. Start your day by visiting some of the exciting museums. The famous Danish illustrator and painter, Otto Frello (1924-2015), has his works on display at Varde Museum, which is located next to his two famous gable paintings. Also visit Varde Artillery Museum which gives an insight into the historical development of cannons and the exhibition contains cannons dating back from the Middle Ages to the present day. Become familiar with the range and different sizes of cannons at the museum, which also focuses on children, who can among other things, try sitting in an armoured personnel carrier. A great experience for the whole family is a visit to Arnbjergparken, which is located in the centre of Varde and surrounds Varde Miniby, which is one of the world's oldest built miniature villages. There are more than 300 small buildings, built at a scale of 1:10 and showing an exact replica of how Varde looked in 1866. Kids will probably think a trip to the Varde play castle outshines the sights. In fact, the play castle offers a 2000 m2 indoor play area filled with fun games on trampolines and lots of different ball games. Outside, there's also a large play area where kids can have fun. There is no doubt that CityJump will also arouse the enthusiasm of little souls. There is a trampoline area of over 1000 m2 with several activities such as Dunking Basket and Dodgeball as well as a challenging climbing wall.

If you've brought your golf clubs, Varde Golf Club with its 18-hole golf course, located in the scenic Varde Å valley, certainly offers challenges. There are several golf clubs a short distance from Varde, such as Henne Golfklub, which has a wonderful 18-hole golf course with an incredible view of Filsø. The perfect self-drive holiday is usually one where the whole family has things to do, and Varde can certainly provide the experiences and attractions. There are also several idyllic towns nearby and Esbjerg is not far away, so pack the car and set off at your own pace and take in the adventures that await in Varde and South West Jutland.
