Volterra
Volterra is a charming medieval town, located in the province of Pisa. From here it is neither far to the coast, nor to the cities of Florence and Siena. Volterra was one of the twelve main cities of the Etruscan Confederation, and today still bears the mark of its roots dating back to the 4th and 5th centuries BC. This is particularly evident when you visit the great old protective city wall, or the two well-preserved city gates. Other sights in the city include the Acropolis which houses several ancient buildings, as well as the foundations of two temples and the Roman theatre built in the ancient amphitheatre style.
