Ivar Aasen Centre

Ivar Aasen was a well-known Norwegian language pioneer who insisted on the preservation of the Norwegian written language. Ivar Aasen in Ørsta is

today a cultural centre for that part of the Norwegian written heritage. The centre is dedicated to language, literature, architecture and art. The farm is also the place where Aasen was both born and raised.

"Dei nynorske festspela" is held every year in June and is one of the highlights of the year at the Ivar Aasen Centre. Several concerts and speeches by famous authors are held in the main building, which was designed by the world-famous architect Sverre Fehn. For those in search of a cultural boost, the Ivar Aasen Centre is the obvious destination on a driving holiday in Norway.
