Harz Railway

The Harz Railway, also known as Harz Narrow Gauge Railways, presents a unique travel experience in Germany. This historic narrow-gauge rail network spans 140 kilometers and is the largest in Germany, served by 25 steam trains and 10 diesel locomotives. Some parts of the network date back to 1897.

The railway connects the towns of Nordhausen, Wernigerode, and Quedlinburg, offering a journey through the picturesque Harz Mountains. Notable lines include the Harz Railway, connecting Nordhausen to Wernigerode; the Selke Valley Railway, branching to Quedlinburg; and the popular Brocken Railway, leading to the summit of Brocken Mountain. This route is particularly renowned for its breathtaking views and the unique experience of travelling by steam train.
