Graz
Graz is the capital of the province of Styria and Austria's second largest city. It is also a university city with as many as six universities and just over 44,000 students.
The city combines all the important historical periods and has one of the best-preserved central city districts in Europe, which was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1999. No other city offers so much in such a small area. The city is full of museums, and the 'Universalmuseum Joanneum' should certainly be mentioned here for its impressive collection of old armour.
Graz also offers a good mix of restaurants, bars and cafés, and of course there are plenty of opportunities to shop in the many streets and alleyways filled with cosy speciality shops. Don't forget to pick up some of the local pumpkin seed oil, a favourite ingredient in many local dishes.
