Customs Tower in Winklern
For almost 700 years, the 'toll tower' in Winklern has served as a defence and lookout tower for the town and in the old days also secured the trade routes south across the Tauern towards Salzburg. Today it hosts an interesting exhibition on crystals.
It is said that a friendly dragon, also known as the 'tower gnome', has lived in the tower from the very beginning and guards the very precious treasure that the valley hides, namely water.
