Haga

Enjoy a holiday by car to Haga, one of the oldest areas in Gothenburg with well-preserved cosy wooden houses, so-called "Landshøvdingehuse". Today Haga is in the centre of Gothenburg, but it all started when the Swedish Queen Kristina ordered the masses to be moved, and so Haga became a fact.

If you just want to walk around the city and sniff the atmosphere, then a visit to Haga is highly recommended. Here you'll find a milliner, the independent toy shop and plenty of antique shops. Buy some homemade marzipan, soap from the archipelago or go on a treasure hunt in the fashion shops that are not to be found in the shopping centres.

The charming neighbourhood is filled with eateries and interesting little shops. The area lies between Vasa and Linné, which meet the main street Haga Nygata at both ends.

Don't forget to take a break, there are plenty of places to eat for lunch or just a coffee.

In December there is also a Christmas market, and in spring and autumn the farm market may be open.

Universeum

Take your children or children at heart on a visit to Universeum. It's a perfect place to spend the day exploring the various science exhibits, some of Europe's largest aquariums, experimentarium and an entire rainforest!

Universeum is located in the centre of Gothenburg and is the largest science centre in the Nordic countries, with 7 floors.

The Paddan Boats

Gothenburg Art Museum is located on Götaplatsen, the city's high-culture centre, just a stone's throw from the theatre and concert hall where Sweden's national orchestra is based.

Liseberg Amusement Park

The Botanical Garden in Gothenburg

The excellent botanical garden in Gothenburg is a paradise for garden lovers The garden already opened in 1923, and is one of the largest of its kind. There you can enjoy 175 hectares of plants, both in the open air and in the many greenhouses. Take a look at the garden's collection of tropical orchids, carnivorous plants and the rare Easter Island tree, which is extinct in its natural habitat. Take a walk in the rock garden and enjoy the scent of the herb garden. Operaen i Göteborg

The modern Gothenburg Opera, located on Lilla Bommen in the harbor, was inaugurated in 1994. Operas, musicals and ballets follow each other. The architect behind the modern creation is Jan Izikowitz and the building is inspired by the world of opera, but also has a maritime feel.

Feskekörka

'Feskekörka' or 'The Fish Kitchen' opened on 1 November 1874 and was designed by Victor von Gegerfelt, who was also Gothenburg's former city architect. The building is very distinctive with its arched windows and a structure that stands without partitions or supports. The building was also considered quite futuristic for its time, back in the late 19th century. The fish auction was moved from Feskekörka in 1910 to the new fishing harbour and since then the Fish Kitchen has developed into Gothenburg's leading place for the sale of seafood. Saltholmen

Saltholmen is a perfect starting point to experience Gothenburg's beautiful archipelago. From the ferry terminal there are countless archipelago ferries to cosy islands such as Styrsjö, Vrången and Brännö. All of the archipelago islands are car-free and are perfect excursion destinations for enjoying the archipelago's beautiful scenery. During the summer months, you can also take a dip in the sea at Aspholmen, Saltholmen's bathing spot. It is easily accessible by tram line 11. The Liseberg Christmas Market in Gothenburg is the largest of its kind in Scandinavia.
