Föhr

Föhr is a North Frisian island located off Southern Schleswig. The beautiful island has an area of about 80 km² and is also called 'the green island'. On your tours around Föhr, you will encounter medieval churches, including St. Johannes Church in Niblum, which is the largest of a total of three. There are also two museums on the island; the cultural history Frisermuseum in Vyk and the art museum Museum Kunst der Westküste in Alkersum.

Bordelumer Heath

An active holiday is in store for you when you go to Bordelumer Heide. If you fancy a walk, take a trip to Bordelumer Heide. Noldemuseet

The Danish-German painter Emil Nolde (1867 - 1956) is a great celebrity in the region. His watercolours, with their expressive colours, made him one of the leading representatives of Expressionism. The historic Nolde Museum in Seebüll is located on the Danish border and can therefore also be combined with a trip to Denmark.

Bredstedt

Try some tourism in Bredstedt, a small town on the west coast of North Frisia, where you can still feel the old Danish history. Find a cheap mini break at Risskov and discover the 700 year old town and its long history. Many people in the town speak Danish and you can find both a Danish school and a Danish kindergarten as well as Clementshus, the Danish homes for the elderly in the town. Everywhere you will find traces of times when the city belonged to Denmark.

Take a walk past the town's church, St. Nicholas Church, which dates back to 1462 and is built in late Gothic style with monks' stones and boulders. The church features a three-aisled altarpiece from 1580 and a late Gothic choir-arch crucifix from the 15th century. In the cemetery you can also find several gravestones dating back to the 1500s - 1700s.

If you have children or grandchildren on holiday, spend a day at the town's open-air swimming pool, which offers 900 square metres of fun in the water. Here you'll find everything from a waterslide to a diving pool and countless other water facilities for children of all ages to play in. There are also lovely green areas where you can relax. Hallig Hooge

Hallig Hooge is one of the 10 Wadden Sea islands off the west coast of southern Schleswig and is an ideal destination for a driving holiday in northern Germany. Amrum

This charming little island is also an important breeding ground for seabirds such as the eider, the shore cormorant, the sea tern and various species of gull.

Wadden Sea

Flensburg

Flensburg is a lively port city with a rich cultural life and a varied shopping offer, which is all too often overlooked. Many Danes simply cross the border for soft drinks and tobacco without taking a closer look at Flensburg, which is a shame as the city really has something to offer.

Flensburg has an interesting history, beautiful buildings and good places to eat. The city was one of the few in northern Germany not to be destroyed during the Second World War, so you'll find many historic buildings from all stylistic periods. The historic city centre, which is influenced by Danish and German building culture, is a living testimony to Flensburg's 700-year history.

Flensburg is an old seafaring town built around the natural harbour at the end of Flensburg Fjord. Today the harbour is a lively area with plenty of eateries, museums and ships. The port is also steeped in history, which you can learn more about at the maritime museum, where all the texts are in English. It's clear everywhere that Flensburg has been under the Danish crown for a full 400 years. For example, many street names in the city are Danish.

Flensburg really is a paradise for anyone who likes to shop. Rotestrasse has about 500 shops with favourable prices for Danes. You'll also find several cosy back alleys and alleyways, which are particularly popular at Christmas time. Holmen with its beautiful old town houses is the pedestrian meeting point with several of the city's department stores.

Sylt

During your stay, a trip to the island of Sylt (south of Rømø) is a must. On the northern tip is the town of List and on the southern tip is Hörnum. Along the island there are beautiful white beaches, lovely dunes and interesting towns. The shape of the island has often changed over the years and is still changing. This of course over a long period of time and the island's current shape has only been around for about 400 years. Sylt used to be part of Denmark. Today there are about 12,000 inhabitants on Sylt. Sylt has 40 km of fine sandy beach and there are many exciting opportunities for activities, including swimming, beach gymnastics and more. In winter it is possible to visit a beach sauna. Christmas market in Husum

Every year, the Christmas market in Husum is an experience for young and old. In Husum, the lights from the Marktplazt shine out over the whole town, creating a fairytale atmosphere for all visitors. Along with the lights, the traders stand in their stalls, selling all kinds of Christmas specialities and Christmas gifts.

On the shores of the North Sea, the port town of Husum welcomes you to its annual Christmas market. Its waterfront location blends the idyllic atmosphere of the town with the maritime, which, together with the impressive gabled houses along the harbour, makes Husum unique.

Husum's new Christmas House tells the story of how the Christmas tree came to be. In the Christmas House you can also buy 19th-century interiors, ranging from Christmas books to Christmas decorations and antiques.

In addition, Husum Christmas Market has Northern Germany's largest Advent wreath, which you will find in the inner city at the Tine Well.

Christmas market in Friedrichstadt
