Sorø Kunstmuseum

The Sorø Art Museum's collection contains approximately 2300 works, comprising more than 350 Danish works of art. The collection consists of paintings by the most important artists in Danish art history: from Abildgaard, Thorvaldsen, Lundbye and Eckersberg to L.A. Ring and Anna Ancher. In addition, the collection contains impressive works that show the trends in contemporary art from early modernism (Lundström) to the present day:

With works of concrete art (Gadegaard, Geertsen) from the 1950s to 1960s, radical minimalism, pop art and land art (Kirkeby, Mertz, Gernes ). From the 1980s, wild painting (Kvium Lemmerz, Dahlin), contemporary art from the 1990s to the present day (Eliasson, Gjertevik and others).

Thanks to a number of donations, the museum has two strong Russian lines in its collection: the Hermod Lannung collection of Russian art from 1870-1930 and the country's largest and most beautiful collection of Russian icons from 1500-1900. The icon collection consists of three private icon collections. The total of 190 icons form a unique material and contain examples of the most important iconic schools and motifs.

The museum was founded in 1943 on the initiative of the Soransk Society and is located in the former and now protected Soro Academy, built in 1832 in the classical style. In 2011, the museum was enriched with a new extension designed by architects Lundgaard & Tranberg. In connection with the opening of the new extension, the museum changed its name to Sorø Art Museum.

The building is a great example of how modern architecture with respect for history and the historic surroundings contributes to the appreciation of an existing building. This also resulted in three awards: the Sorø Conservation Association in 2011, the RIBA European Award in 2013 and the WAN Award in the Innovative Products category in 2014.

Borgring Viking Castle

Næstved

Næstved is an exciting trading town in the south of Zealand. The town was a religious centre in the Middle Ages and several monasteries were built. Today the town's landmark is Sct. Peders Kirke, which was built in the late 1200s. Today, there are also many exciting shops in the town, including Næstved Storcenter, which has more than 60 stores.

Kjøge Mini Village

Bird sanctuary Ølsemagle Revle

The Bird reserve Ølsemagle Revle in Køge is perfect for nature lovers and bird enthusiasts. The reserve is extremely rich in particular wading birds. There is also a lookout tower from which visitors can get a better view.

Roskilde
