Eel in Hallingdal
Find a cheap summer holiday at Risskov and visit the small town of Ål. Stop by the small cultural centre, which opened in 1992 and is a regional cultural centre for the whole of Hallingdal. The house contains two amphitheatres with cinema, concerts, theatre and dance etc. Ål kulturhus offers an active cultural programme throughout the year. See aal.kulturhus.no for details.
Sport fishing is also an option, as Eel has about 50 lakes and rivers with a good trout population. Bring your fishing gear and go for a walk. There are great experiences for both young and old. If you are more into strapping on your hiking boots, the municipality of Ål can offer that too. Find child-friendly hotels in the area and get away on a self-drive holiday with the whole family.
Hivjufossen
Hivjufossen is an impressive waterfall of no less than 250 metres. There is a 3 km hiking trail in the area, suitable for the whole family and those who like an active holiday in nature. The hike starts from RV 50, which is located about 300 metres below Bakke Bridge. Halfway between the bridge and the waterfall you can see the ruins of an old settlement. The destination is an ideal cheap holiday for hiking enthusiasts and those who just love Norway's stunning scenery.
Dokken Fjellgard
Dokken Fjellgard is located in the town of Sudndalen in Hol and serves as an open-air museum that shows what farms looked like in the 1700s and 1800s in upper Hallingdal. The open-air museum consists of 8 buildings that are decorated as they were in the old days. The open-air museum is part of Hol Bygdemuseum.
Hemsedal
Hemsedal aims to become Norway's busiest town and this is reflected in the amount of activities in the town. Here you can really talk about an active holiday. On winter holidays, ski enthusiasts can let loose at the town's large ski resort, and on summer holidays there are a wealth of outdoor activities.
Hemsedal offers a total of 41 hiking routes spread over 210 km. The hiking routes are well signposted and marked and sorted by colour according to difficulty. There are trails for both beginners and those who are familiar with the mountains. The highest peak in Hemsedal is Høgeloft at 1920 metres.
The city also has 21 cycling routes stretching over 225 km. In addition, there is a long downhill hill with varying degrees of difficulty from blue to red in Hemsedal Bikepark and a fun track where you can test your cycling skills at the bottom of Hemsedal.

You can also see King Hadding's burial mound, Hahaugtroll's cave or take a walk up to the Ygdrasil lookout tower, which offers a great view of the valley.
Children will certainly have many hours to spend in the indoor playground (75 sqm), practicing shooting with bow and arrow or fighting with swords. There is also an outdoor water park with two slides, Viking ships and sunbathing area. It is also possible to hire canoes and electric bikes.

This is one of the area's many ski destinations, but the slope network at Liatoppen is the only one in Hallingdal certified to international standards. Here winter comes early, as early as October, and usually lasts almost until May. If you want to take a break, it might be good to know that Liatoppen has a barbecue hut, benches and a fire pit. There is also a roller ski slope and the ski centre even has an annual ski shooting festival. Find a cheap car holiday to Norway and go on a ski holiday with the whole family.
Christmas market in Geilo
Go to Geilo for a great Christmas self-drive holiday and combine a ski holiday with a Christmas market in one of Norway's most popular ski destinations. Bring the whole family to the beautiful winter town and enjoy a cheap hotel stay near the cosy centre, where the Christmas market has been a proud annual tradition since 2012.
