Visit Schwerin

The town is beautifully set in picturesque surroundings with the lakes in the middle of the town surrounded by forests. Schwerin is the capital of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The lakes play a major role in Schwerin, and the city has given its name to the lovely Schweriner See, which at 61 km2, is one of Germany's largest lakes.

Lewitz

Boat trips in Schwerin

Boating on Schweriner See is a lovely activity on a sunny day. The shortest trip concentrates mainly on the town of Schwerin itself, and the slightly longer ones can take you all the way around both parts of Schweriner See.

Schwerin Zoo

Schwerin Zoo offers a diverse and engaging experience for visitors of all ages. The zoo is home to over 1,500 animals representing 150 species, including lions, giraffes, and red pandas. The spacious and naturalistic enclosures provide excellent opportunities to observe animals up close. The zoo also features a tropical house where visitors can explore the lush habitats of exotic birds and reptiles. For children, there’s a large adventure playground and a petting zoo where they can interact with friendly farm animals. Bathing beach Schwerin

Schwerin is the capital of the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Schwerin Castle

Schwerin Castle is located in the city centre on a small island between the lakes Schweriner See and Burgersee. The castle is open to visitors and you can visit the castle museum or take a stroll in the castle garden. Nearby, these sights are particularly recommended: the Statliches Museum, the Siegessaüle, the Altes Palais, the historic Marstall stable building and the classical State Chancellery.

Every year in July and August the magnificent Castle Festival is held, a festival for opera enthusiasts where productions by Puccini, Verdi and others are staged in stunning settings and attract tens of thousands of guests to Schwerin.

Schwerin Cathedral

Right in the centre of Schwerin is the enormous Schwerin Domkirke, which dates back to the 12th century. The former Roman Catholic cathedral was, in its time, dedicated to the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist, and the original building was made of wood. Over the years, the church has been a place of pilgrimage, as it is believed that Count Heinreich I of Schwerin brought a drop of Christ's blood from a crusade in Jerusalem and placed it in the church. The cathedral's distinctive tower is 117.5 metres high and was built between 1889 and 1893. From here you have a fantastic view of Schwerin.

Schwerin Brandmuseum

Internationales Feuerwehrmuseum Schwerin, er Tysklands største brandmuseum. Her fortæller over 15.000 udstillingsgenstande historien om brandvæsenets udvikling op gennem tiderne. Området strækker sig over 4500 m² og har, blandt meget andet, hele 112 køretøjer på udstilling.
