Aggertalsperre

Discover the impressive hydroelectric dam, Aggertalsperre, located just outside the centre of the town of Gummersbach, and fed by the rivers Agger, Genkel and Rengse. The dam is about 230 metres long and 45 metres high, and has a total storage capacity of as much as 20.5 million cubic metres. The Agger dam was built between 1927 and 1929 and has several functions, including water level regulation of the rivers, flood protection and at the same time energy production by hydropower.

The nearby hiking trail, 'Streifzug Energieweg', is an excellent route through the scenic landscapes of the 'Bergisches Land', starting at the dam, passing through a beautiful wooded area and ending up in the small charming village of Lieberhausen. Along the route, which is 11.9 km long, you will get a lot of different interesting and useful information about energy production. During a mini or active holiday in Gummersbach or the surrounding area, it is a must to visit the impressive Aggertalsperre and take a pleasant and educational walk along the 'Streifzug Energieweg'.

Gumbala Water Park

Take the kids to Gumbala Water Park during a family holiday near the cosy town of Gummersbach. The large combined swimming and sauna park is centrally located in the town and offers lots of different pools, slides and wellness facilities all in one large area.

One of the highlights is definitely the adventure pool, which is heated to 32° and includes neon lights, a current channel, hydromassage, wave ball and a 34-metre-long water slide!

Children aged four and up will also love the large water playground, Gumbalino, where they can play with slides, water guns and much more.

Siebengebirge

The Siebengebirge Nature Park stretches from the Bonn urban area to Bad Honnef. The nature park is a unique landscape filled with ridges originating from a volcano. The nature park also offers vineyards, beech and oak forests as well as fantastic vantage points where you can see beyond the Rhine Valley.

Drachenburg Castle

Visit the beautiful Schloss Drachenburg, located on the outskirts of Bonn. After an extensive renovation, visitors can now walk through the castle and experience what life was like back in the 19th century. Also take a walk in the large palace park surrounding the castle.

End your visit with a tour of the Museum zur Geschichte des Naturschutzes, housed in a building right next to the castle.

Ludendorff bro

Ludendorff bridge was built during World War I and connected the cities

Remagen

and Erpelvar across the Rhine. In early March 1945, it was one of 2 remaining bridges over the Rhine when it was captured by American troops at the end of World War II. After the capture, German troops tried to destroy the bridge and on 17 March it collapsed. The bridge's two eastern towers still stand today.

Remagen

The small town of Remagen became particularly famous after 2. The Germans thought they had blown up all the Rhine bridges, but they had forgotten about a railway bridge at Remagen. The Americans seized this opportunity and thus went to war with the Germans.

The beautiful surroundings of Remagen offer many outdoor activities, such as hiking, cycling and sailing on the Rhine from Remagen to Bonn.
