The Museum of Carl Henning Pedersen & Else Alfelt

The Carl-Henning Pedersen & Else Alfelt Museum in Herning, Denmark, is dedicated to showcasing the art of these two notable Danish artists, associated with the Cobra movement. HEART - Herning Museum of Contemporary Art

One of Herning's many prides is certainly HEART - Herning Museum of Contemporary Art, a unique building designed by American architect Steven Holl. HEART opened its doors in 2009 and offers visitors an exciting insight into both Danish and international contemporary art. There are changing special exhibitions covering all forms and types of contemporary art and in all types of media. There are also thematic group exhibitions and the collection itself is based on conceptual and experimental art from the 1930s to the present day. The ´Socle du Monde biennial´ is the place where young artists create new creations together with Herning's companies. The Elia sculpture in Herning

Go on a driving holiday in Denmark and visit the great sculpture - Elia - located on the outskirts of Herning. It was built by the artist Ingvar Cronhammar and inaugurated in September 2001. The sculpture consists of a steel dome, 60 metres in diameter and 11 metres high, rising from a former cornfield in Birk near Herning. Four steel columns rise from the top of the dome, bringing the total height of the sculpture to 32 metres.

Elia is equipped with a large gas burner, which once during a 19-day period creates an 8.4-metre-high and 1-metre-wide pillar of fire for about 30 seconds. The timing of the discharge is random and controlled by a computer. Risskov has a large selection of mini holidays and weekend breaks for the whole family.

Herning Golf Club

Herning Golf Klub is located near the city centre of Herning and has an 18-hole Park Course of par 72. But even though the course is located so close to the city, it is not noticeable on the rather flat course, which is surrounded by green areas and with trees on most holes. There are also good natural challenges with lakes and streams to avoid and a patch of woodland that can be a bit tricky if the ball strays into the woodland hedge. The 'Pay & Play' course is open to all. There are five holes where both beginners and the easily practised can get themselves a little challenge, so whether you are a beginner or experienced, a cheap mini holiday near Herning is a good opportunity to get out to hit the ball.

Herning

In the centre of Central Jutland, Herning shines with an incredible range of everything from art to entertainment. Herning Museum of Contemporary Art is clearly one of the city's prides, showcasing experimental art from the 1930s up to the present day. Carl-Henning Pedersen & Else Alfelts Museum houses 4,000 works by the artist couple, who were also associated with the Cobra group. The outside of the museum is adorned by a 90-metre-long stoneware frieze by Carl-Henning Pedersen. The large Elia sculpture, with a total height of 32 metres and a diameter of 60 metres, may seem quite impressive.

Discover the history and development of photography and the camera from 1839 to the present day in the company of the various photo exhibitions that adorn the walls of the Photo Museum. But otherwise there is also the Herning Open-Air Museum, located in the Museum Park, or how about an exciting tour of the Textile Museum. If you've got petrol in your blood, the AutoGalleriet might tempt you with its collection of more than 100 classic cars and vintage motorcycles and much more. Or take a swing at the top of the tree canopy at Wow Park and don't forget to go wild at Baboon City, which boasts more than 200 interactive rides in a huge area loaded with fun and entertaining moments.

Herning is known for its nightlife, which mostly takes place on Østergade and Bredgade, where there are a number of pubs, restaurants and discos and therefore often a lively atmosphere in the streets. The Photo Museum of Denmark

The museum was founded in its time, more specifically year 1983, by Sigfred Løvstad after he had been collecting photographic equipment sine 1959. The national museum has also deposited most of their historical collection of cameras and photographic equipment to the Photo Museum. 

Also, Denmark's Photo Museum has focus on the connection between different techniques and their value as object of use, and of course with special focus on the photographic technique and how it has developed over time. Textile Museum

The historic buildings of Herning Klædefabrik, founded in 1876 as a wool mill, have had their entire industrial facility restored and can today showcase and present to visitors the textile industry as it was at the time that wool milling was the main occupation in Central Jutland.

The various exhibitions and workshops help to tell the fascinating story of the wool mill and how textiles were made both in the past and in the present. There is also an interesting exhibition of costumes from different periods. The oldest garments have been donated by private individuals and are excellent examples of typical everyday clothing from the 18th and 19th centuries. If the cultural and historical development of textiles, costumes and clothing is of interest, a visit to the Textile Museum of Textile Industry and Design will certainly be an exciting and educational experience.

Herningsholm Museum

Herningsholm was built in 1579 by the nobleman Josva Von Qualen, and came to play a central role in the development of agricultural production in the area. But Herningsholm has also been part of the textile industry in central Jutland, as a farm of 3000 acres of land was established in 1638 to raise sheep. This provided an abundance of wool, which was even exported to Germany. In 1754 Herningsholm was rebuilt in a more classical style and today the manor houses Herningsholm Museum, which among other things tells about the life and writing of the author Steen Steensen Blicher and exhibits several of his original manuscripts. Herningsholm also houses an 18th century knights' hall and the manor is surrounded by a lovely park with paths open to the public. A wonderful place to spend a relaxing weekend break or a mini break.

Baboon City

Drive yourself to Denmark's probably largest indoor amusement park of over 9,000 square meters with Risskov and try the more than 200 fun and interactive rides where everyone can participate. There are both physical challenges and interactive games, sports and games that can be really fun, difficult or easy depending on who the opponent is. There is also a very large indoor slide, spiced up with foam ball cannons as well as a very large section for the very young. Take a walk in the mini village, tenderise the bouncy castle and get lost in the ball room. There are also curling lanes, a pool centre, radios, trampolines, mini golf, a pirate ship, massage chairs and much, much more. Here, the family will be unmanageable on ten acres of land. There's simply so much to do, there's no end to it. After the visit, someone is sure to want to return to Baboon City before too long! Jyske Bank BOXES

Find a cheap weekend break at Risskov and come to Herning and BOXEN, a large indoor arena with a capacity of 15,000 guests and the first of its kind in Denmark. Its flexible construction makes it suitable for holding a wide range of events. Jyske Bank BOXEN also has a number of facilities that make it possible to host major international sports events, concerts and various shows and special events.

In 2010, Lady Gaga gave a concert and since then Prince, Roger Waters, Rihanna and Rammstein have all performed at BOXEN. It was also the venue for the European Women's Handball Championship and the World Swimming and Wrestling Championships. There have also been big shows like Batman Live and We Will Rock You.

A visit to Jyske Bank BOXEN is always an experience, so if you are going to Herning, check if there is anything exciting going on. If you are going to a concert, you can find a cheap hotel at Risskov.

There are car shows and trade exhibitions in one place, but MCH Messecenter Herning is also one of Scandinavia's largest trade fair and exhibition centres, and if a large company party with several thousand participants is to be held, MCH is certainly also able to deliver with its 15 halls and 110,000 square metres of indoor space.

Ikast Tower and Waterworks Museum

Visit the special history museum about water supply in Denmark through the ages. The museum is located in the old water tower, which was built in 1948 as a water tower to supply the citizens of Ikast. In 1987 it was taken out of service and a few years later the tower was converted into a museum as well as a lookout tower from where you can enjoy a wonderful view. The Ikast Tower and the Waterworks Museum are definitely worth a visit when you go on holiday by car in Central Jutland.
