Råbjerg Mile, Northern Europe's largest migrating dune

Råbjerg Mile is one of Denmark's most remarkable natural attractions, located near Skagen in North Jutland. The sand buried church

The Sand-Buried Church (Den Tilsandede Kirke) near Skagen is a fascinating historical site and natural wonder. Built in the 14th century and dedicated to St. Lawrence, the church was gradually engulfed by drifting sand over several centuries. By 1795, only the tower remained visible, and the church was abandoned. Today, visitors can explore the preserved whitewashed tower, a striking contrast to the surrounding sand dunes and greenery. The site offers insight into Skagen’s history and the power of nature, making it a unique attraction for history enthusiasts, photographers, and those exploring the region’s distinctive landscape.

Eagle sanctuary

Find an active holiday with Risskov and experience nature and the residents with Risskov. Visit the amazing Eagle World; the Eagle National Park in Bindslev. The reserve was established in 1980 by the, now deceased, Polish author and nature photographer, Frank Wenzel, who spent more than 55 years of his life studying and photographing birds of prey. Skagen Museum

Skagens Museum is located in northernmost Jutland and exhibits a unique collection of works by the Skagen painters, with names such as Anna and Michael Ancher, Marie and P.S. Krøyer, Laurits Tuxen, Viggo Johansen and Holger Drachmann adorning the walls. In 2014, the collection was expanded with the merger of Ancher's and Drachmann's homes, which still stand as they did then. Experience first-hand the exciting artists' homes and how these extraordinary Danish artists lived their everyday lives.

Raet National Park

The national park covers approximately 185 square kilometres of the outermost archipelago from Hasseltangen in Grimstad to Lyngør at Tvedestrand. It is Sørland's first national park and is located in the Aust-Agder archipelago.

The largest island in Sørland is called Tomøy and lies just outside Arendal. On the far side of Tromøya is Spornes beach, which has its own shingle, and with views of the lighthouses Big and Little Spire, which can just be glimpsed in the distance.

At Tromøy there are also great opportunities for cycling in the beautiful terrain, which is also suitable for families with children. Take the ferry from Tyholmen in Arendal to Akilså, which is the northwestern part of Tromøy, it is free to bring the bikes, if they are rented city bikes in Arendal.

Palm beaches

Hirsholmene

The Stenrevsøerne, which have been protected since 1938, are home to a fantastic wealth of natural and animal life and are thus a genuine nature reserve in the Kattegat. You can get to Hirsholmene by boat from the harbour in Frederikshavn, from Østerby Harbour on Læsø or from Vestersø. The tours are supported by the Danish Nature Agency.

Frederikshavn

Go on a car holiday in Denmark and find a cheap summer holiday or winter holiday at the top of Denmark with Risskov. At the top is Frederikshavn, facing the Kattegat. Frederikshavn is a commercial city that receives over 5 million visitors each year, and it's no wonder as there is so much to experience. Try a trip up the Krudttårnet or visit Fiskeklyngen, the oldest part of Frederikshavn, dating back to 1568. From the fort there is a magnificent view over Frederikshavn and Kattegat, and on a good day it is possible to see all the way to Skagen. The bunker museum is part of 20 bunkers that are no longer used by the navy. Spend the summer on Palm Beach and all year round there are various events in town.
