Nordisk Film

Nordisk Film is the world's oldest film company and has been a part of Danish film history for more than 100 years. It all began with Ole Olsen back in 1906, when Nordisk Film was established in Valby and soon after established itself in the silent film market - ahead of competitors like Hollywood itself! Ever since, Nordisk Film has remained where it is today, playing a vital role in Danish film production both at home and on the world stage.

A visit to Nordisk Film in Valby is a must when you're on holiday nearby. During your visit, you can go on exciting tours, see various exhibitions, listen to lectures and much more. The permanent Danish Film Treasury tour gives you 75 minutes of entertainment packed with exciting stories about colourful film productions, clever film tricks and a unique look behind the scenes. Until July 2019, Nordisk Film is running an extraordinary Olsen Banden exhibition. Here you can experience everything from familiar sets to original costumes and memorabilia from the popular films.

ZOO, Copenhagen

With over 3,000 animals in over 264 exciting species, Frederiksberg Zoo is always an experience in a class of its own. Take the tour of the 'Arctic Ring' and get up close to the animals that live in the cold regions of the Arctic Circle. Meet the polar bears and seals, both under and above water. Also visit the famous Elephant House, considered one of the best in the world. In the Children's Zoo, the little ones are catered for, petting the dwarf goats and watching the farm animals being fed at close quarters. The Tropezoo is filled with snakes, crocodiles, pygmy deer, birds and lots of beautiful butterflies that thrive in the beautifully landscaped rainforest.

The zoo at Frederiksberg is a small peaceful oasis in the middle of the otherwise busy city, which guarantees great experiences for both young and old who love animals.

Tivoli

Copenhagen Tivoli is an amusement park located in the centre of Copenhagen close to Copenhagen Central Station and Strøget. The park is the second oldest of its kind in the world, only Dyrehavsbakken is older. Tivoli was founded by Georg Carstensen in 1843. Try the park's many rides and enjoy an adventurous day with the family, or take a walk in the park and see the beautiful set-up. Tivoli is known for its beautiful Christmas exhibition, which can be enjoyed in December.

Nyhavn

Find a cheap weekend break in Copenhagen at Risskov and discover the idyllic harbour district of old Copenhagen dating back to the 1670s and excavated as an alternative to the pre-existing harbour. Nyhavn used to be known as a more seedy neighbourhood, but in the early 1980s the whole area was given a facelift and today Nyhavn is home to a wide range of delicious restaurants, bars and cafés, and there's nothing better than enjoying a cold drink on one of the many harbour terraces on a warm sunny day. The old, colourful and sometimes quirky houses along the quayside are beautiful and colourful, and there is always a festive and good atmosphere on the quayside. H.C. Andersen lived for five years in No. 20, where he wrote a number of his best-known works, including The Princess and the Lighthouse. Go on a mini holiday in Copenhagen and find a cheap hotel in the capital at Risskov.

The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid is one of Denmark's most visited tourist attractions. She sits on a rock on Langelinie promenade and welcomes travellers to the Port of Copenhagen. The 1.25 m tall bronze statue is the work of Edvard Eriksen. 

Strøget

From Rådhuspladsen down to Kongens Nytorv runs the stretch that has been nicknamed 'Strøget'. To be exact, Strøget covers Nygade, Vimmelskaftet, Østergade and Frederiksberggade as well as the three squares: Nytorv, Gammeltorv and Amagertorv. Strøget is best known for its many specialty shops and clothing stores, selling both discount goods and major international brands such as Prada and Hermès. There are countless cafés and bars, not to mention a huge selection of restaurants offering everything from sushi to Parisian steaks. Strøget is though much more than just restaurants and shops. The many jugglers and street musicians complete the picture as well as the many historical buildings along the 'Strøg-Route'.

Amalienborg

Go on a summer holiday in Copenhagen with Risskov and discover Amalienborg, a must for anyone interested in our royal history and the lives of the royals who are still part of the palace today. At the museum you can sniff around the history of the royal family, and from the beautiful palace square you can watch the Livgarden changing of the guard every day at 12 noon. Carlsberg Glyptotek

The Glyptotek in the centre of Copenhagen exhibits an impressive collection of antique art and works from the 19th and 20th centuries in magnificent surroundings. The museum was founded by brewer Carl Jacobsen (1842-1914). The Glyptotek's permanent collection contains around 10,000 works of art divided into two main collections. Discover one of Copenhagen's cultural gems and enjoy refreshments in the Glyptotek's café.

The Opera, Copenhagen

Operaen på Holmen is Denmark's national opera house and was inaugurated by Queen Margrete II on 15 January 2005. The building was designed by architect Henning Larsen and was both initiated and built by Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller. With its 41,000 square metres, the Copenhagen Opera House blends in well with the landscape on Holmen. The many square metres include about a thousand rooms with rehearsal rooms, cloakrooms and dressing rooms. The Opera houses two stages, the Main Stage, which seats 1,400 guests, and the Takkelloftet, which seats 200.

Take the canal boat across to Holmen, or take the trip by car. The beautiful building and interior are well worth a visit, and perhaps take a well-deserved break in the Opera's restaurant over a light lunch.

The National Museum of Art

SMK is an acronym for the State Art Museum, which is located in the centre of Copenhagen and exhibits both art and art history from the last 700 years. SMK is a varied mix of old and new art, and you can see works by Nolde, Anna Ancher, Hammershøj, Munch and Rubens, to name but a few. But the SMK is probably best known for its incredible collection of Danish Golden Age art and its quite spectacular collection of French art from 1900 to 1930, with famous artists such as Matisse and Picasso. There are also ongoing exhibitions of a special calibre and so it is well and truly impossible not to get full value for time spent at the National Museum of Art. Take part in the many activities the museum organises for both children and adults and enjoy an exciting day among the great artists.
