Dronninglund Castle

Dronninglund Castle is named after Queen Charlotte Amalie, who was Christian V's queen. She bought the castle back in 1690.

Today the castle is a hotel and the old traditions of the interior are still maintained. If you are passing by the castle, you should also take a walk in the beautiful castle park.

Dronninglund Art Centre

On the outskirts of Dronninglund you can visit Dronninglund Art Centre. Here you can experience changing exhibitions of both Danish and international artists. The exhibitions range from paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics and much more.

At the art centre you will also find a café where you can satisfy your hunger and have a drink. There is also a gallery shop where you can buy gifts, crafts, scarves, artist cards and much more. The centre is located in scenic surroundings close to Dronninglund Castle.

Dronninglund Forest

Dronninglund Storskov, with its 961 ha, offers a nature experience beyond the ordinary. The forest, which is characterised by coniferous and deciduous forest, has a large selection of marked hikes, both for children and adults. The forest also contains many traces of the past, such as the Troldestenen, a remnant from the Ice Age. It is also possible to discover the gypsy caves, traces of which can still be found, in Sømosen. The highest point in Vendsyssel, Knøsen, at 136 metres above sea level, is also to be found in the forest.

A funny phenomenon occurs in the forest, where the laws of nature have gone completely mad. At one particular spot in the forest (Storskovvej 14-18), water runs uphill instead of downhill. The phenomenon can be experienced especially on a bicycle. If you are riding freewheel downhill, you have to pedal to avoid getting stuck, while you can ride freewheel uphill. A very special phenomenon that the whole family can experience in the forest.

Voergaard Castle

See one of Denmark's best-preserved Renaissance castles, Voergaard Castle, a beautiful 16th-century castle with precious art treasures and a beautiful park. The castle houses an extensive and unique collection of European art and furnishings, including works by Goya, Rubens, Raphael and El Greco, as well as treasures from Napoleon I, Louis XIV, Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette's personal effects. Hear the story of the domineering palace mistress Ingeborg Skeel from 1580, who can send shivers down the spines of young and old alike. See the dungeon, meet the ghosts and find the blood stain that won't wash off.

EKKO

Go on a driving holiday in Denmark and visit the work, EKKO by Thilo Frank. Here you can experience a very special work of art made of 199 tree trunks. Inside, the logs form a spacious shape that seems to be in constant rotation as long as the viewer is moving. If you stand still, the movement stiffens and the odd shape of the room challenges your balance.

To find the artwork EKKO, it is advantageous to park at Hjallerup Mekaniske Museum, where you can walk to the artwork.

The artwork is freely accessible around the clock.

Asaa Beach

Enjoy a weekend break or a real beach holiday at Asaa Strand, which has been named one of the best beaches on the east coast. The beach is also very child-friendly, as there are no dangerous reefs and the waves are small, which means that the water also gets deep slowly. Asaa Strand is therefore an ideal destination for a family holiday in Denmark.

Hunting and Forestry Museum Dorf Møllegård

Dorf wind and water mill is a unique facility located at Pulsbæk just south of Dorf Church. The site today serves as a museum mill, local history museum and nature centre. The two mills date from the 19th century and were in use until the 1950s.

In 1925 the Mill Farm was built south of Dorf Mill and today the Hunting and Forestry Museum is housed at the Mill Farm, where you can get an insight into the farming of the time.

At the mills there is a café, good parking facilities and tables/benches. There are toilets and information material in the mill yard. There is a nature trail around the mill lake and through the forest, so you can take a walk in the scenic area.
