Roskilde is a city filled with activities, history, shopping and much more for the whole family. Roskilde Cathedral is a fantastic attraction in the city. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the cathedral has been the burial place of kings and queens for centuries. The city is also known for its music festival: Roskilde festival, which takes place in June/July at the animal show square.

Arken Museum of Modern Art

Ballerup

You can also choose to visit Ballerup Museum, located in Pederstrup just outside Ballerup. The area around the museum is a charming village area, perfect for the museum. Here you can learn more about the history of Ballerup, rural life through the ages and take a closer look at the paintings of Grand Duchess Olga. There is also an exhibition of farmhouses as they looked in the 1800s and 1900s, while you can visit the old grocery shop and the blacksmith's shop.

Ballerup's swimming pool Ballerup East Kilbride The swimming pool dates back to 1971 and is named after a twin town. The bath was once an open-air bath, but today it has large indoor facilities. The permanent superstructure was added in 1993. In addition to the large pool, the baths offer a warm water pool, a lovely spa and water massage jets. Here you will find fun for the whole family and there is also the possibility of massage and reflexology. The Tropezoo is filled with snakes, crocodiles, pygmy deer, birds and lots of beautiful butterflies that thrive in the beautifully landscaped rainforest.

The zoo at Frederiksberg is a small peaceful oasis in the middle of the otherwise busy city, which guarantees great experiences for both young and old who love animals.

Tycho Brahe Planetarium

There is a lot to see and do in Copenhagen and one of the many family experiences is definitely a trip to the Planetarium. Often referred to as the 'Planetarium', the Tycho Brahe Planetarium has become the gathering place for all those who love the universe, the planets and not least space travel. But the Planetarium is first and foremost the place where the starry sky and the distant galaxies and planets can be seen on the 1,000 square metre dome screen of the IMAX theatre. Carlsberg Glyptotek

The Glyptotek in the centre of Copenhagen exhibits an impressive collection of antique art and works from the 19th and 20th centuries in magnificent surroundings. The museum was founded by brewer Carl Jacobsen (1842-1914). The Glyptotek's permanent collection contains around 10,000 works of art divided into two main collections. Frederiksborg Castle

Take a trip to Hillerød where you can experience the most impressive Frederiksborg Castle. Built by Christian IV in the early 1600s, it is the largest Renaissance building in Scandinavia. The grounds include a beautiful palace park and a palace church. Since 1878, the castle grounds have been home to the National History Museum. Discover 500 years of Danish history through paintings and portraits, furniture and crafts, and kings and queens. Take a tour and see the Knights' Hall, the Palace Church, the Auditorium and the Neptune Fountain.

Christmas market in Roskilde

Set against a beautiful backdrop of historic medieval buildings, Roskilde's annual Christmas market is a must. Here you can be seduced by the smell of fir, mulled wine and roasted almonds, singing, music and elves and lots of cosy stalls. Not least the 800-year-old cathedral and the old town hall provide the backdrop for the atmospheric events when it's 'Christmas on Stændertorvet'.

The Christmas market in Roskilde is extremely charming and has a very special atmosphere in the historic setting of Stændertorvet in the city centre. It was a trading post as far back as the Viking Age and up through the Middle Ages, and it really creates a special atmosphere to walk around here. Take a pleasant stroll around the 20 or so stalls offering everything from pottery, jewellery, winter knitwear, toys, wooden crafts, Christmas decorations, decorations and beautiful handmade art. You will also find several places to warm your hands with a nice cup of hot mulled wine or cocoa and enjoy warm apple slices and delicate specialities. Around the town, the charming Christmas train runs, which the children love, and a couple of real reindeer also visit the town. Part of what makes Roskilde's Christmas market so cosy and special is that it doesn't actually seem very big. You get to know each other a bit and there are smiles on your face and twinkles in your eyes. It's nice and Danish - quiet, cosy and informal.

In the city's creative Musicon district, you can also experience the cosy indoor Christmas market, 'Alletiders Jul', where more than 60 stalls are set up. There are also various workshops and live entertainment.

Besides the Christmas market, Roskilde has an incredible amount of Danish history and you have a great opportunity to combine your Christmas market mini break with some sightseeing in the beautiful town. For example, visit Roskilde Museum or the Viking Ship Museum, or take a walk into the 800-year-old UNESCO-listed Roskilde Cathedral. You'll also find plenty of more traditional shopping opportunities, both in the pedestrian streets of the city centre and in the large shopping centre, RO's Torv, which houses more than 80 shops and restaurants.
