Bad Bramstedt

Always a good travel offer from Risskov, how about a car holiday to Germany, more specifically Bad Bramstedt, located in the heart of Northern Germany and home to almost 14,000 inhabitants. Breitenburg Castle

One of the most famous and important sights in the Itzehoe region is Breitenburg Castle. The building is almost 500 years old and was one of the country's important cultural and political centres in the 16th and 17th centuries. The castle has stood unchanged since 1898.

The Hall of Mirrors, the Knights' Hall, the Thorwaldsen Gallery and the Library are a must-see visiting the area. For those who like outdoor activities, the castle offers a 27-hole golf club, a stable and several cycling and walking trails to try out.

The castle is owned by the noble family Rantzau, which is why it is open to the public in limited extent. Appointments to view the castle can be made at reception.

Outdoor pool Quickborn

Visit Freibad Quickborn, a large outdoor swimming pool with different areas for adults and children. There is also a large playground with a surrounding lawn, a football pitch, a volleyball court and basketball hoops. There is also a small bistro if hunger sets in. The pool is a great place to spend a morning or perhaps afternoon if the weather is good and the sun is shining.

Den lille færge Kronsnest

During the summer months, the crossing between Seester and Neuendorf is served in true old-fashioned fashion by a small rowing boat that transports you from one side of the bank to the other.

Quickborn Sports Park

Sportpark Quickborn gives you the opportunity to keep fit on holiday and train in one of the largest gymnastics and health centres in Northern Germany, with over 8,000 square metres of space to romp around in. It costs about 5 euros per person for a day ticket. The health centre includes an outdoor sauna, fitness for children, rehabilitation, medical check-ups, and a large beach club. There's also a children's centre, where the little ones are looked after, while the older members of the family can take as many laps as they like in the large swimming pool.

Glückstadt

Also known as the Little Kingdom on the Elbe. Glückstadt was founded by Christian IV and was intended to be a rival to Hamburg as well as a fortress and port city. But unfortunately it did not turn out exactly as the Danish king had wished. Today Glückstadt is a peaceful and idyllic town, with small streets and a beautiful and picturesque harbour. The town is full of well-preserved houses and its very location on the Elbe makes 'Glückstadt' a lovely town.

There are also great shopping opportunities in the Old Town, so take a stroll around and browse the many breathtaking but also tempting shops, where personal service is always top-notch.

The city also has many beautiful and restored buildings. Enjoy the Old Town Hall, which was rebuilt in 1874 but retains the original facade from the mid-17th century when the first town hall was built. Also stop by the Brockdorff Palace with the Detlefsen Museum or the beautiful Wasmer Palace, and of course the ´Palais für aktuelle Kunst´ where contemporary art is exhibited.

Detlefsen Museum

At the Detlefsen Museum you can learn all about Glückstadt, founded by Christian IV and the Danish royal family. The museum is housed in the Brockdorff-Palais, a beautiful Renaissance building that also brings the history of the town's seafaring traditions to life. The museum is located in a side street off the market square.

Sejlbåden Rigmor

The Rigmor sailing boat is a true cultural institution in these parts. It is Germany's oldest sailing boat still in service and has been transporting passengers along the Elbe for 150 years. If you want to experience a little extra, you can lend a hand with the sail and ropes during the trip.
