Rostock

Rostock is a charming medieval town and today a vibrant university city. Rostock's waterfront location provides plenty of light and air, and ultimately life. In addition, Rostock has a charming city centre with a large, long promenade offering plenty of shopping opportunities. This is framed by two city gates. When you visit Rostock, look out for the old buildings and, of course, visit the lively harbour. Also take an afternoon to head out to the outer port of Warnemünde, where you'll find some fantastic beaches.

Rostock Zoo

Discover Rostock Zoo, founded in 1899. Here you'll find one of Germany's largest zoos with 4,500 animals in 320 species. The park is 6 hectares and offers plenty of space for the animals. Among the animals you can experience: polar bears, lions, gorillas and many more!

Warnemünde

Warnemünde is much more than just a ferry port, and the small port town has developed over time into a gem of a seaside resort and spa with around 6,700 inhabitants, located in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

It's hard not to spot the big lighthouse, built back in 1897 and still fully operational, though mostly for tourists. Those who venture up the 37-metre tower are rewarded with a wonderful view of the Baltic Sea and northern Rostock. Enjoy a stroll along the cobbled streets and alleys, where the many hollyhocks adorn the facades of the well-kept fishermen's houses. Warnemünde is a bit like Skagen, but with German charm. There is a good atmosphere in the town, good restaurants and cafés and small and nice shops.

It is important to try a "Fischbrötchen", which is the speciality of the town but eaten throughout the area and comes in a myriad of variations. It's a small round with fish, like Matjes with some onions or smoked eel or maybe some smoked herring and it just tastes good. The secret is that it is always freshly caught fish and therefore has a fuller flavour with the lovely bread and a beer or soft drink to wash down the delights. Head down to Alter Strom, where there are great opportunities to try this particular speciality while enjoying the beautiful harbour and the many fish boats.

Bad Doberan

Go on a wellness break or family holiday in Bad Doberan, a small atmospheric North German resort that is extremely popular with Germans themselves. This is due to its absolutely stunning location. Drive yourself to Bad Doberan, which is less than 10 km from the Baltic Sea coast and not far from the Hanseatic city of Rostock.

Doberaner Münster is not called the "Pearl of North German Brick Gothic" for nothing.

Year after year, the beautiful church attracts hundreds of people for services, quiet time, adorable concerts and people just interested in taking a closer look at the beautiful building. As you enter the church, you will be immediately impressed by the slightly plain but still sublime Cistercian architecture, with light pouring in through the large windows. During the summer there are various concerts in the church every Friday and it is a lovely calming experience.

Right near Doberaner Münster you will find the Stadt- und Bädermuseum, housed in a neo-Gothic building dating from 1888. Here you can see an exhibition about Bad Doberan-Heiligendamm's history as a spa and bathing resort and how treatments have developed over the years - perfect for a wellness holiday. The museum is also surrounded by a garden where you can enjoy a quiet moment.

The unspoilt nature that once stretched between Bad Doberan and Heiligendamm was the reason a railway link was built between the two places in 1886. The steam train carried visitors through open fields and green forests from the small town to the coast. You can enjoy this experience today too. Take a ride on the steam locomotive "Molli".

Karl's adventure village

Go on a driving holiday to Germany and explore Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at your own pace and visit Karls Erlebnis-Dorf, a cosy park full of fun activities for the whole family. The park is also a real farmer's park where a lot of regional products are produced. It is therefore also possible to get something delicious to eat. Heiligendamm

A nice little town on the coast. In clear weather you should be able to see Denmark from the jetty. The coast is nice and worth a walk. When on a driving holiday here, you should also take a trip to Galerie Orangerie or, if you want to get out on the blue wave, book an appointment for windsurfing.

Kübomare

Kübomare is a 3,000 m² indoor wellness centre, where you will find, among other things, swimming pools with sea water from the Baltic Sea as well as a large sauna and relaxation area. The water temperature in the two pools is around 29 °C. One of the pools measures 25x12.5 metres and is perfect for a swim. In the smaller pool you can relax with massage jets and a bubble bath. The sauna area offers a total of seven different saunas, including a Finnish sauna, steam bath, bio sauna, Kajüten sauna, ice bath, foot bath, relaxation area and sauna bar. There are also saunas and adventure baths outside.

Marlow Bird Park

If you are interested in birds, you should visit this bird park with a twist in Marlow. The twist is that in addition to interesting bird species such as flamingos, kingfishers, parrots and penguins, the park also features other animals such as monkeys, lemurs, kangaroos and prairie dogs. In addition, there are daily falconry and flying shows where you can see the large and impressive birds of prey spreading their wings.

Technology Museum Pütnitz

Hidden in a large forest is the large military facility, which was originally a seaplane airfield and built by the German Værnemark. The facility houses a rather special museum with literally everything that can be scraped together from Eastern European and Russian means of transport. The interesting and old hangars that stand in slight but graceful decay.

There's also an annual festival where thousands of enthusiasts visit the site, turning it into a huge market selling old GDR luminaries, a veritable mecca for kitche.

Güstrow

The old town of Güstrow is home to the old Renaissance castle, Güstrow Castle, which also graces the townscape. The impressive castle was built back in 1589 and was used as the residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg. Also visit the cathedral, which was built in Gothic style between 1226 and 1335. The cathedral is also on the "European Route of Brick Gothic" and so the famous work, "The Floating Angel, by the sculptor Ernst Barlach, can also be seen in the impressive brick cathedral.

Northern Germany's biggest Christmas market is in Rostock, where 300 stalls are set up each year on the Neuer Markt in the heart of the city's historic centre. Stretching from Neuer Markt to Kröpeliner Tor and the city's harbour, the market is packed with live music and activities for children and adults. Each year Santa arrives by sleigh, ship or bus, and on weekends fairytales are performed on a stage in the middle of the market, while adults can enjoy archery and axe-throwing. The Christmas market is divided up so that the main square at Neuer Markt is filled with entertainment, singing, activities, carnival and rides, while stalls are located along the city's cosy network of pedestrian streets all the way down to the harbour.

Browse the many stalls offering delicious traditional Christmas treats, with roasted almonds, mulled wine and lots of local specialities. Local delights include smoked sausage, fish and Schmalzkuchen. The market is one of the most traditional and magical Christmas markets in all of Northern Europe and is particularly popular with Scandinavian visitors.
