Amsterdam

Discover Amsterdam on your next driving holiday.

Enjoy a stroll along the canals and take in the beautiful old houses and buzzing café life - and there are plenty of cafés. Especially around Dam Square in the city centre there is an abundance of life and shops, so park your car and enjoy the buzzing atmosphere. If you want to see more of the city but from a different angle, there are several boat trips on the canals, so hop on one of the many options and enjoy a most relaxing form of sightseeing.

In the centre is the Heineken Museum, the original brewery from 1864. Here you can learn about the history of the brewery, take guided tours and taste the beer. You can also see the original beer halls with copper tanks filled with Heineken's beers, and the museum is a fun way to spend your holiday as the staff really take it all in their stride. However, book tickets well in advance to avoid the long queue outside.

Another popular tourist attraction is the Anne Frank House on the Prinsengracht Canal. It was in this house that she hid with her family and four other Jews from the Nazis during World War II and where she recorded the thoughts she had in her famous diary. Here you can walk around and get a thought-provoking insight into their lives as prisoners in their own homes.

If you are interested in art, you should visit the Van Gogh Museum, which is known for having the world's largest collection of Van Gogh's paintings and is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Amsterdam. Here you can get an insight into the artist's life and, of course, there is also ample opportunity to view, at your leisure, the large exhibition of all his works in chronological order.

When it's time for a break from city life, Vondelpark in Amsterdam is a great place to go. It is the most famous park in the whole of the Netherlands and has around 10 million visitors every year. There is room for everyone whether you are a tourist or a resident of the area. Whether walking the dog, going for a run, having a picnic or attending one of the many free open air concerts that are held.

If there's one thing the Netherlands is known for, it's tulips. So if you have green fingers and want to see these beautiful flowers in full bloom like never before, take a trip to Keukenhof - preferably in spring - and experience the world's largest flower garden. There are a multitude of different varieties, colours and ways in which they are put together to create just the right wow effect. With around 800 different varieties, this is no problem. The park also hosts tulip shows and other exhibitions, as well as activities for everyone.
