Rødekro

Rødekro is a station town with just over 6,000 inhabitants. The small town has cosy local shops and a good atmosphere. The road from Viborg to Hamburg also passes through Rødekro and where the road crosses the river, Rødå, in the middle of the town an inn was built in the 1600s, which of course came to be called Røde Kro and the inn is still located in the middle of the town today. Rødekro is easy to get to both by train and if you are by car, the town is close to the E45 motorway.

A little north of Rødekro lies a piece of history from World War I, Andholm Battery, which was part of Sikringsstilling Nord. Andholm Battery, is the only one of the large gun batteries in Sikringsstilling Nord that was not blown up by Danish engineer troops after World War I. It was a mistake that the battery was not blown up, as Sikringsstilling Nord had to be removed as soon as possible, so that the Germans could not use them later.

If you're travelling with children, you'll find Sønderjylland's largest play area, Jump A Lot, 5 km outside Rødekro. The Jump A Lot playground consists of 4,800 m2 of indoor and 10,000 m2 of outdoor space filled with activities. Indoors you can bowl, drive electric cars, jump on the trampoline, swing on the Tarzan track and play fun games. Outdoors you can challenge each other to giant ludo, play mini golf, jump on a bouncy cushion and much more. Jump A Lot also has a cafeteria where you can buy lunch, but you are also welcome to bring your own food and drinks.

Rødekro is also home to Southern Jutland's largest congress centre, Compass Congress Center. Here there are often exciting things on the program, like huge flea market, housing fair, outlet fair or art and antique fair. The congress centre is part of Scandinavia's largest trade fair organiser Compass Fairs ApS and if you are near Rødekro it is always worth taking a look at the programme and seeing if there is an exciting event.

7 km from Rødekro is Aabenraa. Aabenraa is first and foremost known for having Southern Jutland's largest harbour. If you drive to Aabenraa, you will quickly notice a lot of beautiful and old architecture from different eras, throughout the city. Buildings of note in Aabenraa include St Nicolai's Church from the time of the Valdemars and Brundlund Castle, founded by Queen Margrete I around 1400. The pedestrian street in Aabenraa has a particularly cosy atmosphere. Here you will find many interesting shops and many good places to eat. If the weather is nice or you are in for a cold thrill, you will find Sønderstrand inside the city. It is a very child-friendly beach with various activities such as playground and beach volleyball. There is a disabled-friendly bathing bridge and access to toilets and changing rooms.

If you visit Rødekro, there is not far to a beautiful nature, a short drive from the city you will find among other things Genner bay and the small island Kalvø, which invites you to good walks along a well-built trail system that goes around the whole island. You can also visit Slivsø, the third largest lake in Southern Jutland, which has a fascinating history. The lake was drained in 1958 for agriculture but was restored in 2004 and today has a surface area of about 164 hectares and a rich natural life.

Rødekro offers many experiences for all ages, fun and games and wonderful experiences in nature and the city, so pack the car and take the whole family on a self-drive holiday to the small cozy station town in Southern Jutland.
