Aabybro

Go on a driving holiday north of the Limfjord and visit the charming town of Aabybro.

If you want peace and quiet, but also want to enjoy the vibrant life of a big city, Aabybro is the place to go for a mini break. Here you have easy access to the surrounding towns, such as Brønderslev, where you can visit the largest Rhododendron Park in the north, which is incredibly beautiful especially when in full bloom. Or pop into Aalborg, Denmark's fourth largest city, which has plenty of sights, shopping and dining to offer.

Aabybro itself has something to offer, and if you are interested in relics from previous generations, Egnssamlingen is certainly worth a visit. Tools, machines and other effects from the 1800-1900s are on display here. Here it is possible to see agricultural and industrial machinery, but also to learn more about local horse racing.

Enjoy a walk along the Ryå, the largest river in Vendsyssel. The river has its source in Jyske Ås and runs together with Nørreå south of Brønderslev, and continues its course and size southwards into Limfjorden. At Nedre Ryå, you have the opportunity to fish and catch sea trout and pike, if that was something that might tempt. In the area south of Aabybro lies Ulvedybet, which serves as a resting place for thousands of migratory birds, and is also home to the mute swan, which is Denmark's national bird. There is a bird tower where you can get a great view of the birds as they take a rest before moving on to their next destination.

Aabybro is also close to the north-west coast beaches, and there are plenty of opportunities to frolic on the beaches, which in summer is a gathering place for many tourists, both Danish and foreign. If you have children with you on your driving holiday and it is during the summer months, a trip to Fårup Sommerland in Saltum is an obvious place to go. Here you will easily be able to spend one or more days playing, exploring and enjoying the traditional rides, but certainly also the park's water park.

If music, culture and art appeal to you, but you still want peace and nature, Aabybro will be the obvious starting point for your overnight stay, and then you can drive to Aalborg, enjoy the day with shopping, dining, going to the theatre, a trip to Musikkens hus or KUNSTEN, which is a museum of modern art. There are also many other exciting experiences when you choose to make the trip from Aabybro to Aalborg, including a visit to Lindholm Høje Viking Museum and Viking Burial Ground. Or take the kids for a walk at Aalborg Zoo.

If you are interested in history, there is also a lot to see in Aalborg, where you can visit the Maritime Museum or the Defence and Garrison Museum. Around Aabybro you can learn more about the different bogs and how peat was extracted for fuel back in the day. Visit the bogs, the most famous of which is probably Store Vildmose, which is now a habitat area for many rare animals and plants. This is also where the famous Vildmose potatoes come from.

Pack your car and go on a driving holiday with Risskov to the wondrous and ever-changing North Jutland, and enjoy the nights in a cosy and rural atmosphere in the old station town of Aabybro.
