In the western part of Austria, Tyrol is full of scenic areas with peaceful lakes, stunning mountains and wonderful landscapes. In north-eastern Austria, you'll find the country's capital, Vienna. It is the 7th largest city in Europe and therefore a great destination for a city break. Part of the charm of Vienna is that there are many impressive buildings left over from its heyday that are still preserved, giving the city a medieval feel. You can visit the Vienna Zoo, the world's oldest zoo. You can visit Schönbrunn Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or the beautiful Gothic Belvedere Palace. You can also wander through the centre of Vienna and take a closer look at the many shopping streets such as Kärntnerstrasse, Graben or Kohlmarkt.
