Göttingen

The university town of Göttingen with more than 1000 years of urban history is well worth a visit. The beautiful city is surrounded by moats and there are impressive churches and beautiful newly restored half-timbered houses scattered throughout the city, which help to give the city a special atmosphere. The old town centre has a lively café life with plenty of restaurants and an almost southern atmosphere.

The town's landmark is the Gänseliesel fountain and Gänseliesel, an Art Nouveau figure depicting a poor girl tending her geese and probably the most kissing girl in Göttingen. Traditionally, all graduating students kiss this girl, even though a kissing ban was introduced in 1926.

Hannoversch Münden

Hannoversch Münden or just Hann. Münden is around 30 km from the hotel. The town consists almost entirely of very well-maintained half-timbered houses and is beautifully situated just where the Fulda and Werra rivers meet the Weser, so the town is almost completely surrounded by water and is an ideal destination when on a self-drive holiday in the area. Around the town are 12 historic town towers with medieval ramparts and bridges. It is also quite interesting to get up close to the beautiful half-timbered houses and enjoy the beautifully executed bay windows and the historic portals and well-maintained doors. The very beautiful Town Hall was rebuilt at the beginning of the 17th century and has a very unusual Renaissance façade facing the square. The Town Hall also has a carillon which is quite entertaining, so don't miss the singing when the puppets entertain at 12:00, 15:00 and 17:00. There is also a lot of water art and water games in the town squares, and they have become a favourite place for the little ones to play. Visit the many cafes and restaurants in the centre which are mixed in with small and very charming shops that are sure to warm you up for some special shopping, good hunting!

Nieheim Art Trail

If you want a hike with a difference, the Nieheimer Kunstpfad is definitely for you. Through the interplay of nature, art, culture and landscape, the art trail will awaken your curiosity for this potential new trend. The various objects and works of art you will pass on your way have been developed by international artists and carefully placed to blend in with the natural surroundings. The route, which starts in the centre of Nieheim, is not a conventional path - on the contrary, you will leave the normal forest path several times along the way to explore the artefacts.

Teutoburg Forest/Eggegebirge Nature Park

The Eggegebirge Nature Park is a recreational area of more than 2700 km², located in north-eastern North Rhine-Westphalia. The park, which consists of about 60% forest, was founded in 1965 and expanded to its current size in 2008, and is today the area's largest and Germany's sixth-largest nature park. The area is ideal for hikers and nature lovers, with beautiful varied landscapes and numerous sites and monuments to discover. It is recommended to stop by Nieheim Tourismus- und Kulturamt, the town centre, where you will find information and maps about the area's many hiking trails and opportunities.

Westphalia Culinarium

The Westfalen Culinarium, which opened in April 2006, consists of four museums with Westphalian specialities. Spread over an area of 3000 m², you can discover the Cheese Museum, the Westphalian Ham Museum, the Bread Museum and the Beer and Spirits Museum. The museum covers German, European and global "basic foods" and there is also a tasting room where you can sample the region's many exciting specialities.

Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe Mountain Park

Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013. Here you can discover a stunning Baroque-style palace complex with a 350-metre-high Hercules statue built back in the early 1700s. The unique cultural landscape also offers historic water art, which together with the towering Hercules figure and the castle itself form a very special architectural masterpiece.

Kassel

Christmas lights and atmosphere in a medieval town full of fairy tales. The Christmas market in Göttingen takes place in the market square by the town's old town hall, where in addition to the town's landmark - the Gänseliesel - and St. Johannis Church, you'll find charming stalls with the finest handicrafts and Christmas treats.

The Christmas Market in Göttingen invites you to enjoy fun and entertainment for young and old, with a carousel, Ferris wheel and Christmas events throughout December.

Göttingen is an old medieval and university town that holds a traditional German Christmas market every year, full of cosiness and fairytale atmosphere. From the old town square, the market spreads out with stalls in all traditional crafts such as pottery, woodcarving and jewellery making. It is thus the perfect destination for unique Christmas shopping. In many places you can also see skilled craftsmen at work.

The stalls also sell lots of Christmas treats, from roast chestnuts and French pancakes to cheeses from the Alps. There are also great rides for the little ones, including a merry-go-round and a Ferris wheel.
