Gammelgården in Haltdalen

Gammelgården in Haltdalen is an 18th century vicarage, and here guests can get an interesting insight into the history of the farm and Haltdalen as a place of worship dating back to 1170 with its old and magnificent stave church.

The Museum on Ratvolden

Johan Falkberget, who lived between 1879 and 1967, was a Norwegian writer who belonged to the group of 'neo-realists' from the beginning of the 20th century. Johan Falkberget is best known for Eli Sjursdotter from 1913 and Brændoffer from 1907. His books were often based on Røros and the copper smelter, and a visit to his home can be both inspiring and reassuring. It is best to take a guided tour that gives a unique insight into the author's life and writing.

You can also fish in Ruglsjøen, but you need a fishing permit.

Doktortjønna Open Air Park

The large outdoor park at Doktortjønna is only a 5-minute walk from the centre of Røros. The park is the perfect place to go if the kids are having a great day. The park is the perfect place for families and children and there are lots of activities going on. There is a zoo, climbing, playing, fishing, rowing or paddling, and don't forget a ride on the Elias boat. There are also many beautiful trails in the area that either lead up to Kvitsandas or the lake. So, should you have any strength left, go on one of these wonderful walks.

Røros

The small town of Røros is one of the oldest wooden towns in Europe. It is situated on a mountain plateau about 628 metres above sea level. The town has a long history, since 1644 when it was founded. A copper vein was found nearby and over time Røros became a very important mining town in Norway.

The town has kept its charm with its wooden houses and a really good, pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. There are many narrow streets and backyards around the inner city which also date back to the 17th century. This has also contributed to the city being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town is an open-air museum in itself and it is a wonderful experience just to wander through the old town and get up close to the lovely surroundings.
