The Schloss Matrei-Trautson suspension bridge
Austria is known for its magnificent alpine landscapes, and Wipptal certainly does not disappoint with the view from the Schloss Matrei-Trautson suspension bridge. The suspension bridge leads to the castle Matrei Trautson, built in 1221 by Count Albrecht II of Tyrol. The castle was previously called the "Pearl of the Wipptal" before American bombers destroyed the building at the end of World War II. The 150-meter suspension bridge spans the gorge that separates Pfons and the castle and offers a fantastic view to the north in the direction of Innsbruck.
You can visit the suspension bridge via a walking route that starts at Matrei railway station and continues to the suspension bridge and the castle. On the way back, the trip goes through the historic Matrei. You have free access to the suspension bridge, which is part of an extensive renovation project. The castle of Matrei-Trautson is under restoration and will be opened to visitors. You can already visit the 150 meter long suspension bridge and experience the beautiful view.
Innsbruck
The town is known as the "capital of the Alps" as it is the perfect destination for skiing and snowboarding in winter, and mountaineering and hiking in summer. The town itself offers countless sporting activities all year round, and has a beautiful town centre with historic buildings and an extremely friendly atmosphere. The town is surrounded by impressive mountains.
The old town dates back to the Middle Ages and still consists of a number of charming medieval houses. Facing the central square is the Golden Roof, built as the residence of the Tyrolean kings and queens in the 15th century. From here they could watch the tournaments in the town square without leaving their palaces. The Golden Roof itself is a balcony covered with almost 3,000 copper roof tiles.
The Imperial Palace is built in the late Gothic style and dates back to 1460. The palace consists of four wings around a gigantic hall in the middle (Riesensaal), which is beautifully painted in white and gold and is well worth a visit on a mini break or ski holiday to Austria!
Ambras-Slot
Ambras Castle is set in sprawling English gardens high above Innsbruck. The building houses Europe's oldest museum, including weapons and armor, art and books. It also houses the Habsburg Portrait Gallery with works by Titian, Van Dyck and Velásquez.
Götzens
The small Tyrolean village of Götzens is an extremely popular destination - not least because of its excellent location and the wide range of things it has to offer. Here you will find a wide range of wellness facilities, child-friendly activities and sports facilities, as well as open-air concerts. The village is an ideal destination for active holidays and family holidays in Tyrol. It offers enough fun for young and old even for a longer summer holiday.
Birgitz
Birgitz is beautifully situated on a mountain plateau at 860 metres above sea level and surrounded by beautiful meadows, southwest of Innsbruck at the foot of the Kalkkögel mountain. The beautiful landscape is ideal for hiking during a summer or active holiday in Tyrol. The old farmhouses in particular are worth seeing, as are the absolutely stunning views.
Hungerburg Railway
A ride on the Hungerburg Railway to the Karwendel Mountains is perfect for a family outing. The cable car connects the beautiful town of Hungerburg with the centre of Innsbruck and takes you over a distance of just under 2 km. So you get a ride of about 8-10 minutes with a view you will never forget. In Hungerburg you can also take the Nordkettenbahn cable car up to the Seegrube Restaurant and enjoy the view from here. Whether you are on a family holiday or a summer holiday near Innsbruck, the Hungerburg-Bahn offers an exciting experience
