Eksjö

Go on a cheap car holiday in Sweden where you can visit Eksjö, an old school and regimental town on the Småland Highlands. Skullaryd Elk Park

East of Eksjö, you can visit Stuverydsbäcken Skrôle Hie, an 800 m long and steep rocky gorge with fallen trees and special vegetation. A stream runs at the bottom of the gorge and is home to a very special old trout herd.

The monastery in Varnhem

Go on holiday in your own car and find a cheap hotel stay at Risskov. Especially if the trip is to Varnhem in Vestergøtland, Sweden. Here the Cistercian monks decided to settle and build a small monastery, which flourished for several centuries. In the 1500s, with the Reformation, the monks abandoned their monastery and church. In the 1600s, Magnus Gabriel del la Gardie rebuilt the church and, as a result, it is in good condition today. However, the monastery buildings were left to decay and it was not until the 1920s that excavations began on the old ruins. In the church there is a small museum with pictures and stories of the monastery's heyday. Jan Guillou's fictional character Arn was born and raised in Varnhem, where as a child he was in the service of God at the monastery, and so was able to acquire knowledge of language, philosophy and theology, as well as skills in blacksmithing, health care, agriculture and as a building technician. Jönköping

On a summer holiday or a mini break in southern Sweden, visit the region's largest city, Jönköping, an old market town. Here you will find a rich selection of shops to suit all tastes. It is one of the fastest growing cities and there is always something happening. It is worth visiting areas such as City Park, exciting museums, concerts and theatre performances in the newly built cultural centre "Spira", several cinemas and one of the largest shopping centres in Scandinavia; A6 centre. Jönköping also has a long coastline with a lovely harbour filled with cafes, outdoor terraces, restaurants and cosy bars.

Christmas market in Jönköping

Take the family on a lovely mini break or weekend break in Jönköping during the second weekend in December and visit the traditional and cosy Christmas market at Strömsberg farm.

In the historic environment of Strömsberg Farm, the Strömsberg Association organises the traditional Christmas market, where visitors can experience a wonderful Christmas atmosphere. There are small stalls selling everything from handicrafts, ceramics, jewellery, textiles and visual arts to sweets and treats.

The Christmas market is child-friendly, and during the day there is entertainment with a Lucia train and children's choir, as well as a chocolate wheel and a lottery. And when you get hungry, hot dogs and coffee are served.

Strömsbergsgård is located just outside Jönköping and is easily accessible if you come by car. Book a cheap hotel package at Risskov in or near Jönköping and take the opportunity to visit the beautiful Småland nature of Strömsberg Nature Reserve.
