Arendal

Take a mini break or a weekend break and visit the town of Arendal, which has about 40,000 inhabitants and is the second largest town in Sørlandet after Kristianstad. Here you'll find a delightful mix of archipelago, where there are plenty of outdoor opportunities, and then there's the bustling town with small streets filled with specialty shops and great food experiences, as well as a wide range of culture all year round.

Go sightseeing in the archipelago with ´Skilsferga´ to idyllic Merdø. Hire a canoe or kayak and explore the coast at your own pace, and remember to bring your swimsuit when you head to the beach. Risskov always has many cheap mini breaks and weekend breaks to choose from.

Vitensenteret Sørlandet

The Sørlandet Knowledge Centre is both an experience and a centre where children and young people can learn through interactive experiences and a kind of 'learning land' for inventors and researchers. Take the whole family on a tour of the interactive knowledge centre and start exploring all the interactive installations and activities the centre has to offer. Try a ride on the hamster wheel or try a thermal camera or solve the many puzzles and challenges and much, much more.

There is also an outdoor area with parking and a beautiful view of the lake.

Raet National Park

The national park covers approximately 185 square kilometres of the outermost archipelago from Hasseltangen in Grimstad to Lyngør at Tvedestrand. It is Sørland's first national park and is located in the Aust-Agder archipelago.

The largest island in Sørland is called Tomøy and lies just outside Arendal. On the far side of Tromøya is Spornes beach, which has its own shingle, and with views of the lighthouses Big and Little Spire, which can just be glimpsed in the distance.

At Tromøy there are also great opportunities for cycling in the beautiful terrain, which is also suitable for families with children. Take the ferry from Tyholmen in Arendal to Akilså, which is the northwestern part of Tromøy, it is free to bring the bikes, if they are rented city bikes in Arendal.

The Ibsen Museum

In Grimstad there is a museum dedicated to Henrik Ibsen. It is located in the old building where the world-famous author worked as a pharmacy assistant in his younger days. It was here that he wrote 'Catilina', which was also his first play.

The majority of the museum has been preserved as it was when Henrik Ibesen lived there, between 1847 and 1850. Visit the small herb garden and also stop by the small museum shop, where you can buy Ibsen's complete works in several languages. A lovely experience to take home from a mini-vacation in Norway.

Bogbyen at Skagerrak

Find a cheap self-drive holiday at Risskov and discover the Bogbyen at Skagerrak. In 2003, Tvedestrand was named the Book Town on the Skagerrak, and today the small town boasts as many as ten bookshops. Every month there are different literary events with some of Norway's best known authors. The town's guided tours are also recommended, so you don't miss out on the many hours of great experiences the town has to offer. Take breaks along the way and let spontaneity reign as you pass the many beautiful houses in the city such as the Town Hall, Forvaltergården and "Strygejernet". The latter is considered Norway's smallest house and has entrances from the first, second and third floors. Arendal & Surroundings Golf Club

Book a golf holiday in Norway at Risskov and play at Arendals Golf Club, which was built in 1994 and today has more than 1000 members. The main course has 18 holes, while their smaller course has 9 holes.
