In the centre of Silkeborg, in the middle of the square, is the classic Hotel Dania, part of historic Silkeborg. The hotel has been in the same location since 1848 and can thus offer its guests an almost historic stay filled with personality, warmth and good memories.
About the hotel
Hotel Dania has played an important role in Silkeborg's history since 1848, when the hotel was founded. The hotel's long history hides many great stories and celebrities who have stayed here. H.C. Andersen and the actress Johanne Louise Heiberg praised the "comfort and hospitality of the rooms" in one of her many letters.
Hotel Dania is particularly known for its restaurant, Brasserie Underhuset, which has received several gastronomic awards and is also a member and Knight of the "Chaine des Rotisseurs", a worldwide organisation of gastronomes. It serves high-quality food inspired by classic restaurants in France.
Breakfast is served in the Drewsens Salen, which is part of the hotel and named after the founder of the Paper Mill. The large terrace is also a hit, especially when the sun is out. Food and drink are served here, and a good lunch can quickly turn into a long afternoon of convivial company with like-minded bon vivants and freshly poured draught beer.
Rooms
All rooms are newly renovated and equipped with a private bathroom and hairdryer. Rooms and bathrooms are all different sizes, as the renovation was true to history. There is a 32- or 40-inch Smart TV, with the option of connecting your own media device. A trouser press is also fitted, for free use, and both an iron and ironing board can be borrowed from reception if they are not already in the room. The hotel also offers a cleaning and laundry service, which is available within 24 hours - (except on weekends and public holidays). Free WI-FI is available throughout the hotel.
Some rooms have lake views, while others face the vibrant square, which features a market every Saturday and various events throughout the year.

The latest check-in time is 18:00 on weekdays. If you arrive later, please contact the hotel in advance. On weekends, the latest check-in time is 16:00, please also contact the hotel if you arrive later than 16:00 on a weekend.
Restaurant:
Dinner is served at Brasserie Underhuset no later than 19:00.
The restaurant is located under the hotel and there is no lift from the hotel.
The restaurant is closed on Sundays. If you arrive on a Sunday, Risskov guests will receive a bottle of wine and some chocolate.
The hotel is non-smoking, so smoking is only allowed outside.
The hotel lift only goes up to the 2nd floor.
If your stay includes coffee and cake, this will be served on the second day.
Cleaning:
The stay is with final cleaning, which means that beds will not be made and towels will not be changed during the stay. New towels cost DKK 35,- and can be picked up at the reception.
Extra towels can be ordered at the reception. Large towel 70 DKK, small towel 40 DKK.
Car parking:
The hotel has parking spaces behind Hotel Dania. Parking permits can be collected from the hotel reception and cost DKK 140.00 per day. The number of parking spaces is limited and cannot be guaranteed. Public parking is also available at Torvet and several locations in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.
Set GPS to Østergade and drive into the pedestrianised street. Make a stop outside Hotel Dania and buy a parking ticket for DKK 140.00. Then turn around in the hotel courtyard.
PLEASE NOTE! Parking will cost DKK 150 per day in 2026.
Events:
Thanksgiving dinner 2025, 10 November: a supplement of DKK 200 per person for the dinner will be settled with the hotel. (It will not be possible to purchase another dinner on this date).
Christmas dinner on weekends from November 14 through December 19. On the day of arrival, there will be a supplement of DKK 280 per person, payable to the hotel. (There will only be Christmas dinner and a supplement on one day of the stay). It will not be possible to change the dinner date.
As an alternative and for a supplement, Risskov guests can choose dinner at Café Korn on Sunday evening instead of a bottle of wine and something sweet in the room on Sunday. The dinner can be chosen between a burger, salad or pasta dish (without upgrades and excl. drinks) – the supplement is 200,- DKK and is paid upon arrival.
Special option: If Risskov guests wish to change breakfast on Saturday or Sunday at Hotel Dania to the brunch buffet at Café Korn, this is possible for a supplement of 150,- DKK per person per day – the brunch buffet at Café Korn is served Saturday–Sunday from 10–13.
