Trelleborg

Trelleborg is Sweden's southernmost city and has around 30,000 inhabitants. The town is named after the Viking fortress, Trelleborg. Trelleborg's medieval town plan is largely untouched, but much of the older buildings have been lost. Trelleborg's oldest parts are located around the old square.

In the early 19th century, the town's shipping industry developed, and in 1897 regular ferry services opened between Trelleborg and Sassnitz with mail and passenger traffic, making the town an important port. In the town there is a shipping museum for those who want to learn more about the history of the port town.

The town also has a swimming pool and a bowling alley for the whole family to enjoy.

The Maritime Museum in Trelleborg

Sweden's southernmost maritime museum tells the story of cargo within Trelleborg's large municipality, past and present. Trelleborg became an important port in the early 19th century, and the museum takes you on a journey through time.

The museum has various departments for fishing, small boat engines, nautical instruments, stewardships, shipping companies, freight forwarding and ferry services. The museum also has a number of ship models of the "Trelleborg ship".

Smygehuk

Smygehuk is a harbour and fishing village on the south coast of Skåne, but is best known for being Sweden's southernmost point. Because of this, it is a popular tourist destination with over 200,000 visitors each summer. There is also an ice cream kiosk, a café, a smokehouse and a boathouse. At the harbour there is a sign with distances to some European capitals and to Treriks Rouset (Sweden's northernmost point). Weather permitting, the area is also perfect for a picnic in the sun.

Malmo

Go on a self-drive holiday and visit Malmö, the largest city in Skåne and the third largest in Sweden. Malmö has always been a trading city and still is, so it also offers great shopping opportunities. The city centre is well visited and offers a wide range of cultural opportunities. There is a strong cultural life in Malmö, including the Malmö Festival, which is held in August and usually attracts a good number of visitors. The 'Old Town' is close to Malmö Castle and is characterised by charming houses and winding streets, mixed with cafés, design shops and galleries. The Old Town is also home to Stortorget, surrounded by buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries. Here you'll also find the equestrian statue of King Charles X, who helped secure the return of Sweden to Scania in 1658. Southwest of Stortorget is ´Lilla Torg´, surrounded by half-timbered houses from the 17th and 18th centuries and definitely worth a visit.

Form/Design Center is located in an old magazine building and exhibits design and crafts complemented by a shop with a wide range of books on Scandinavian design.

At Stortorget, just south of the Central Station, Malmö's pedestrian street and alleyway start, filled with shops. There are also several department stores along the pedestrian street, along with a number of craft shops.

In the newer district of Hyllie, located in the south of Malmo, is probably Scandinavia's largest shopping centre, known as Emporia, so try your luck, there are usually good deals. Malmö is a lovely city and an ideal destination for a cheap mini break, weekend break or longer summer holiday in your own car.

Copenhagen

Then you can get started exploring the Danish capital. Firstly, make sure you stop by one of Denmark's landmarks; The Little Mermaid. The Little Mermaid is the biggest tourist attraction in Denmark and one of the most photographed statues in the world. Walking past Amalienborg is also a must on your trip to Copenhagen. Christiansborg, the Round Tower and Rosenborg are among other sights to pass by. Of course, you should also take a stroll along Strøget, which starts at Rådhuspladsen and continues down to Kongens Nytorv. Here, shopping opportunities abound. If you continue across Kongens Nytorv, you'll come to Nyhavn. Nyhavn is at once modern Copenhagen's most popular and vibrant meeting place and an attraction of historical importance. It is also possible to find cheap weekend breaks at Risskov, so take a summer or winter break and experience a self-drive holiday in the capital.
