Husum Harbour Days/Husumer Hafentage

With the right timing and planning you can, on your mini or family holiday in Husum, experience the fantastic "Husumer Hafentage", which is the biggest folk festival in the town of Husum. This includes the Hafentage fun run, a Ferris wheel and a craft market in the castle courtyard. The traditional tug of war on the outer harbour is also very popular. All kinds of culinary delights are also on offer everywhere, making Husum even more interesting as a destination for a mini break or a cheap weekend break in northern Germany.

Husum

Enjoy a cheap mini break or maybe just a weekend stay in the small port town of Husum in northern Germany, where you can enjoy a maritime atmosphere. Walk along the city's Kulturpfad, which takes you past 32 of the city's most important historical and architectural sites. On the tour you will pass the old town hall, St. Mary's Church, Theodor Storm's birthplace and an old manor house. You will also pass several of the city's museums. Every year, the Christmas market in Husum is an experience for young and old. In Husum, the lights from the Marktplazt shine out over the whole town, creating a fairytale atmosphere for all visitors. Along with the lights, the traders stand in their stalls, selling all kinds of Christmas specialities and Christmas gifts.

On the shores of the North Sea, the port town of Husum welcomes you to its annual Christmas market. Its waterfront location blends the idyllic atmosphere of the town with the maritime, which, together with the impressive gabled houses along the harbour, makes Husum unique.

Husum's new Christmas House tells the story of how the Christmas tree came to be. In the Christmas House you can also buy 19th-century interiors, ranging from Christmas books to Christmas decorations and antiques.

In addition, Husum Christmas Market has Northern Germany's largest Advent wreath, which you will find in the inner city at the Tine Well.

Friedrichstadt

Friedrichstadt looks very much like a typical Dutch canal town. That's why this romantic little town is called "Little Amsterdam". The town was built by the Dutch in 1621, where the rivers Ejderen and Treene flow together. Picturesque serrated gables and beautiful facades are reflected in the canals, and the houses are filled with carvings on doors and windows. The Dutch emblazoned the winding streets of the town, which intersect.

Schwabstedt

The small, cosy village of Schwabstedt is set in idyllic green surroundings, with the River Treene cutting through the landscape. Of course, nature is the main attraction in the area and right by the hotel you can find countless beautiful hiking trails, where you can also choose to cycle around.

The small town offers an idyllic tranquillity where you can just enjoy the fresh air and soak up the surrounding nature. The town itself is pleasant for a stroll among the old thatched houses and green spaces. You can also find many rare plant and animal species in the area as you explore the countryside. And in general, there are countless opportunities for those who want to enjoy an active holiday, where not only hiking and cycling are possible, but also boating, swimming and fishing are among the favourite activities in the area.

If you enjoy a quiet walk in the small town, it is a good idea to stop by the town's church, which is set in beautiful surroundings. The Lutheran church of St James dates back to around 1160 and is built in the Romanesque style. Note the altar, which was originally in Husum but came to the church in Schwabstedt around 1834. The altar was acquired together with pictures of the twelve apostles as well as pictures of scenes from the crucifixion of Jesus.

Bredstedt

Try some tourism in Bredstedt, a small town on the west coast of North Frisia, where you can still feel the old Danish history. Find a cheap mini break at Risskov and discover the 700 year old town and its long history. Many people in the town speak Danish and you can find both a Danish school and a Danish kindergarten as well as Clementshus, the Danish homes for the elderly in the town. Everywhere you will find traces of times when the city belonged to Denmark.

Take a walk past the town's church, St. Nicholas Church, which dates back to 1462 and is built in late Gothic style with monks' stones and boulders. The church features a three-aisled altarpiece from 1580 and a late Gothic choir-arch crucifix from the 15th century. In the cemetery you can also find several gravestones dating back to the 1500s - 1700s.

If you have children or grandchildren on holiday, spend a day at the town's open-air swimming pool, which offers 900 square metres of fun in the water. Here you'll find everything from a waterslide to a diving pool and countless other water facilities for children of all ages to play in. There are also lovely green areas where you can relax. Toenning

Throughout its history, Tönning has repeatedly demonstrated its ingenuity and skill. The experimental exhibition playfully illustrates life in the Wadden Sea and its surroundings. It is a draw for the whole country and is also important for the Schleswig-Holsteinisches Vadehav National Park.

Multimar Wattforum is the visitor centre of the Schleswig Holstein Wadden Sea National Park. Discover the National Park's wildlife and all the wonders of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in an interactive and fascinating exhibiton in Tönning.

Bordelumer Heath

An active holiday is in store for you when you go to Bordelumer Heide. If you fancy a walk, take a trip to Bordelumer Heide. The large heathland area invites you for lovely walks or bike rides in the varied nature. The area of 192 ha changes from large open areas to cosy birch forests and small streams. The heath is exceptionally beautiful when the heather is in bloom. Hamburg Hallig

Hamburger Hallig is a beautiful former Wadden Sea island located on the west coast of southern Schleswig. The area has been landlocked since 1860, via a dam, and is today an extremely popular destination for thousands of tourists who come to enjoy the stunning Wadden Sea scenery. In the information centre Amsinck-Haus, you can find information on Wadden Sea walks and sailing trips in the area, as well as rent bicycles. You can book a hotel at Risskov.

Westerhever Fyrtårn

Westerhever Lighthouse is a major landmark in the Eiderstedt landscape and has been in use for more than 100 years. From the top of the 41.5 meter high lighthouse you have a fantastic view of the Wadden Sea and the North Sea.

Gottorp Slot

Visit Gottorp Castle with its beautiful baroque gardens and three art museums; the National Museum of Art, Cultural History and Archaeology.

The castle is located at the bottom of the river Slien and has played an important role in the many wars between the Danish kings and the Gottorp dukes.

Frederik I also ruled Denmark from Gottorp Castle.
