Very nice hotel with some nice rooms, both the old and the new. Our room was a small double room, and at the very least, there was only one chair for two people.

About the hotel
At the tip of the Helnæs Peninsula, surrounded by water, forest, and open skies, you’ll find Sinatur Hotel Gl. Avernæs. The location is one of a kind – quiet, spacious, and close to the beach – but still within easy reach of Assens, Faaborg, and the small roads that wind through Southern Funen. Whether you're visiting in the height of summer or on a crisp winter day, the landscape invites you to slow down and take it all in.
About the hotel
Sinatur Hotel Gl. Avernæs is set in a former manor house with a long history, but what really defines the atmosphere is the attention to detail: the food is organic and locally sourced, the surroundings are respected, and the mood is calm and unpretentious. The breakfast buffet is fresh and generous and in the evening, the kitchen serves dinners that strike a careful balance between flavour, sustainability, and simplicity.
You can borrow bikes and explore the coastline or nearby villages at your own pace. Back at the hotel, there’s time and space to unwind – whether that’s with a book in the beautiful old orangery, a drink in the bar, or a game of billiards or table tennis. It’s the kind of place where nothing feels rushed – not the meals, not the views, and not the time you spend here.
Rooms
The rooms are bright and have everything you need. All the rooms come with a comfortable bed, desk, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and a private bathroom with hairdryer and towels. Some face the park, others catch a glimpse of the water, but all offer the same quiet, relaxed setting – ideal for unwinding after a day in nature or at the table.

Helnæs
Go on a summer holiday on Funen and take a trip to the southwest Funen peninsula, Helnæs, which consists of two very different areas. Experience the contrast between the flat landscape of Helnæs Made and the domed terrain of the Bobaks. Here you are guaranteed some lovely walks, wrapped in Funen idyll. Helnæs Lighthouse in the south-western corner of the peninsula dates from 1901 and rises 28 metres into the air.
The Japanese Gardens
Discover the 5500 m² of beautiful Japanese gardens in Broby, northwest of Faaborg. The stunning gardens are laid out in true Japanese tradition, with as many as 6 different styles spread across the area. Feel the tranquility as you walk among idyllic small lakes and streams, and enjoy this garden architectural gem. The Japanese Gardens also has a cosy café, which offers sushi and Japanese-inspired meatballs, among other things.
Frøbjerg Bavnehøj
Visit the protected nature area Frøbjerg Bavnehøj, which has the highest point on Funen at 131 metres. From here you get a magnificent view. In the area you will also find that there are many different trails to walk and if you follow the longest trail, you will pass several memorials of national historic importance - including, not least, a beautiful memorial grove for the victims of the occupation, established in 1954.
Danmarks Fugle Zoo
Experience true Funen farmhouse idyll in Denmark's Bird Zoo in Tommerup. The 5-hectare area contains as many as 800 different birds from all four corners of the world. Among these you will find exciting bird species such as storks, parrots, ostriches, ibis, cranes, owls, tropical and swimming birds.
Svanninge Hills
Funen is a paradise for nature lovers and hikers. North of Faaborg, for example, lies Svanninge Bakker. Park your car and head out into this stunningly beautiful and hilly landscape, created during the Ice Age. In addition to being a geological area of interest, the area also contains an extremely rich plant and animal life, and it is recommended to bring binoculars.
Faaborg
The cosy market town of Faaborg is located on Faaborg Fjord in the south of Funen and has about 7000 inhabitants. Take a walk through the cosy streets and see the well-preserved old houses. From the harbour in Faaborg there are ferry connections to several islands in the South Funen archipelago such as Bjørnø, Lyø, Avernakø and Ærø. These interesting islands are like pearls on a string and are certainly worth a visit.
If you are interested in art or history, you can visit some of the town's museums: the Faaborg Museum has an exhibition on Funen painting, the Øhavsmuseet, which is housed in the old railway station from 1882, or the Arresten, which is an exciting museum for the whole family that gives an insight into prison life past and present.
Faaborg Museum
Enter the wondrous world of art. Faaborg Museum offers beautiful paintings by the famous Funen painters, sculptures, architecture and furniture art. Faaborg Museum was founded in 1910 by cannery owner Mads Rasmussen, who had a passion for art. The impressive museum building was designed by architect Carl Petersen and is an architectural work of art in itself. Look forward to an exciting experience in the spirit of art.
Gardens of the Humlemagazine
One of the many experiences that await you on Funen is the Humlemagasinet. Enjoy the seven beautiful gardens, which include an orchard, the English Rose Garden and Queen Ingrid's Garden. The Humlemagasinet also houses cultural history exhibitions and various cultural events are held. In the beautiful grounds there is also a shop and a small café. Find cheap hotels at Risskov and drive to Funen with the whole family at your own pace.
Glow Odense
Experience a true winter adventure when Glow opens the doors to its 6000 square metres of enchanting light landscape. Here, children can play and sense while adults explore Glow's Christmas market, or enjoy delicious food from various food trucks. Every week there is also on-stage entertainment from local artists to treat your ears.
Odense is the first place in Europe to welcome the world's largest indoor Christmas event, Glow. Behind the magical Christmas event is the Canadian family business Glow Gardens, which in just a few years has created a global event concept in 10 cities that gives guests light and joy in the otherwise dark winter season. The only limit is your imagination in our illuminated winter wonderland. Address: Faaborgvej 248 B, 5250 Odense SV - Tickets must be purchased - glowgardens.dk- between 21.11 and 4.1.
Ditlevsdal Bison Farm
Ditlevsdal Bison Farm is located near Morud on North Funen and is Europe's largest bison farm with almost 400 American bison. On selected days during the year, guided tours are arranged on the North Funen prairie, where you can experience the magnificent animals up close. The tour takes place by tractor and wagon, while a guide tells about the animals, their behaviour and funny stories from everyday life.
Visit the farm shop, which is open Thursday to Saturday. Here you can buy delicious bison cuts to take home. In the small forest behind the shop is the Indian Trail, which offers climbing and balancing. The Indian Trail is available during opening hours.
