Hedleberget

During an active holiday in the northern end of Hardangerfjorden, you will have good opportunities to visit Hedleberget, which is located on the outskirts of Voss. Hedleberget is a slate quarry where there is a beautiful hiking trail with some great views along the way. The route is just about 2.5 km long and takes about an hour to walk. Guided tours of the quarry are available in summer.

Skjervsfossen

Just north of Hardangerfjorden you will find one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the area, Skjervsfossen waterfall, located between Granvin and Voss on a historic route called "Skjervet". The waterfall actually falls in two rounds and the road goes over the place where it levels off before the next fall comes. In total, Skjervsfossen has a drop of 150 metres and the many good hiking trails nearby make it a superb destination during an active holiday near Hardangerfjorden.

Myrkdalen Fjellandsby

When there's not enough snow on the other ski slopes, they usually fall in snow in Myrkdalen Fjellandsby in the West. The town is half an hour north of Voss and two hours' drive from Bergen, not far from Sognefjorden and Nærøyfjorden. Following the precipitation in the eastern mountain areas, large amounts of snow are helping to extend the winter season.

Have you skied before? Myrkdalen Fjellandsby has its own ski school with skilled ski instructors. Try cross-country skiing, slalom, snowboarding, telemark and "sitski" with an accompanying disabled person. There's something for everyone - and a lovely warming room where you can warm up after a great day on the slopes.

The singing Norwegian mountain dialect is echoed both on the slopes and in the cosy mountain huts scattered across the mountainside, which offers 22 slopes of varying difficulty, for both the youngest and the older generation. At 1060 metres, Myrkdalen Fjellandsby offers excellent off-piste skiing.

A lot has happened in Myrkdalen Fjellandsby over the last fifteen years. New ski resorts have appeared, more ski lifts, followed by more barbecue places and cosy restaurants. Choose between a traditional eatery, with a bar and a nice sofa in front of the crackling fireplace, family-friendly pizzas or a mountain cabin where you can have a small picnic, there are many options to choose from.

Remember to check the weather forecast before you set off skiing, and avoid the days when it's very foggy. Start early in the day and enjoy the long hours in the beautiful powder.

Hardangerbroen

The Hardanger Bridge is one of the world's longest suspension bridges and, with its main span of 1,310 metres, is actually 30 metres longer than the Golden Gate in San Francisco. In total, the beautiful bridge measures 1,380 metres and offers a wonderful ride with great views - a ride that can be taken by car, bike or on foot.

Ulvik

Visit the beautiful little town of Ulvik, which is beautifully situated on the Hardanger Fjord, where it forks in two at its northern end. Ulvik offers beautiful scenery, lots of apple trees and an interesting little museum that gives an insight into the Norwegian poet, Olav H. Hauge's life and work.
