Jönköping County Museum

There are plenty of attractions worth checking out when on a mini break in Jönköping, including the Jönköpings Läns Museum, located in the city centre. This is the major regional museum for northern Småland. The museum has permanent exhibitions on the cultural history of the region over 10,000 years and the art of painting.

Jönköpings Stadspark

On a ridge west of the city center is Jönköpings Stadspark, which was established in 1896. It is a beautiful nature park with views over large parts of the city.

The Match Museum in Jönköping

The Match Museum in Jönköping is housed in one of the old factory buildings from 1848. In the mid-19th century, the match industry flourished and Jönköping grew rapidly. At that time, Jönköping was known throughout the world for its match production. At the Match Museum in Jönköping, located by the harbour, you can see tools, machines, matchboxes, labels and more from the childhood of matchmaking.

Fuglemuseet i Jönköping

I udkanten af Jönköping Stadspark, I en rød teglbygning fra 1914, ligger fuglemuseet i Jönköping med en stor samling udstoppede fugle. Samlingen består af 1.450 udstoppede fugle fordelt på 330 arter, som stammer fra perioden omkring år 1900. Museet rummer også 2.580 æg fra svenske fugle.

Husqvarna Museum

I Husqvarna kan I besøge Husqvarna Museum centralt i byen. Museet viser udviklingen fra våbenfabrik i 1600-tallet til en moderne storindustri i 1800- og 1900-tallet, der bl.a. fremstillede symaskiner, knallerter, cykler og motorcykler.

Vättern

Sweden's second largest lake and Europe's sixth largest. The lake is known for its very clear water, which actually supplies many of the area's municipalities. There are also several beaches at Lake Vättern. However, the water can be quite cold in some places.

Gränna

Gränna is known for its production of bolche bars. The first buns were produced in 1859, when Amalia Eriksson was given permission to open a buns factory in the town. Best known are the popular red and white peppermint buns. Don't deprive yourself of a visit to "Gränna Bolchekogeri". The shop is open most of the year and during the summer (weeks 24-32) there are free tours every day at 10.30, 13.00, 15.00 and 16.30. Every year, the World Biscuit Production Championships are also held in Gränna.

At Gränna Museum you can learn more about the town's famous personality, Salomon August Andrée, who was born in Gränna in 1854. Here you can learn about his ill-fated balloon voyage to the North Pole in 1897.

Take the ferry over to Visingsö, where the Brahe family ruled for a long time. There is still a permanent population on the island and it is popular to visit the old fortress ruins.

For visitors with children, the best bathing area is at Grenna Harbour.

The John Bauer trail

The countryside near Jönköping and Huskvarna is also worth exploring. Hike the 50 km John Bauer trail, named after the fairy-tale illustrator John Bauer, who drew inspiration for his motifs in the forests northeast of Huskvarna.

The John Bauer Trail starts from Gränna Mountain in Gränna, where there is a beautiful view of Vättern. About four km south of Gränna you pass through idyllic Röttle, which dates back to the 13th century. From here you walk along the Vättern and pass through Västanå Nature Reserve before the route turns inland.

Visingsö

Eksjö

The farm is so well preserved that you could almost believe that one of the Aschan family members could step through the door at any time. Business cards, menus and invitations bear witness to a bygone era.

Eksjö Museum is located in the centre and here you can visit the 3 permanent exhibitions: the Albert Engström drawings, the military history exhibition and the urban history exhibition. In addition, there are changing special exhibitions of modern art. Concerts and other events are held regularly in the museum garden. Christmas market in Jönköping

Take the family on a lovely mini break or weekend break in Jönköping during the second weekend in December and visit the traditional and cosy Christmas market at Strömsberg farm.

In the historic environment of Strömsberg Farm, the Strömsberg Association organises the traditional Christmas market, where visitors can experience a wonderful Christmas atmosphere. There are small stalls selling everything from handicrafts, ceramics, jewellery, textiles and visual arts to sweets and treats.

The Christmas market is child-friendly, and during the day there is entertainment with a Lucia train and children's choir, as well as a chocolate wheel and a lottery. And when you get hungry, hot dogs and coffee are served.

Strömsbergsgård is located just outside Jönköping and is easily accessible if you come by car. Book a cheap hotel package at Risskov in or near Jönköping and take the opportunity to visit the beautiful Småland nature of Strömsberg Nature Reserve.
