Guitars - The Museum

In Umeå you will find the world's largest private guitar collection at the Guitars - Museum. Here, the twin brothers Åhdén invite visitors to an exhibition of electric guitars, basses, amplifiers and other musical objects. The collection is based on their great interest in American music, especially from the 50s and 60s.

Västerbotten Museum

Västerbottens Museum is an open-air museum with historical buildings and exhibitions about the Sami. It is an interesting and educational experience for the whole family, which can easily be combined with lovely walks and a picnic in the area.

The museum is designed to give visitors an insight into Västerbotten's history and showcase the area's cultural heritage through various stories, memories, objects, photographs and artworks. There are several historic buildings where you can see how society was structured back then. Stop by the farm and the bakery, visit the schoolhouse and the church, but there are many other interesting places to visit.

As Christmas approaches, Christmas markets are also organised at the museum. Workshops are also held regularly throughout the year. You can also visit the museum café for lunch or coffee.

Umedalen Sculpture Park

Umedalen Sculpture Park is one of Europe's most beautiful sculpture parks located in Umedalen just outside Umeå. Take the opportunity to go on a little excursion and see art after your mini-holiday. The park is open to visitors all year round, and there is also the option to book a guided tour if that might be of interest. The Cultural Park has been hosting exhibitions since 1994, with works by over 200 artists, both national and international.

Lake Nydala

Lake Nydala is larger than a lake and is located east of Umeå city centre. In summer it is a good place to go if you want sun and swimming or other outdoor activities during your holiday.

Around the lake there are several lovely places where you can swim, a 12 km long hiking trail that runs along the lake. An easy way to get back and forth between the different bathing spots. You can also take a canoe trip on the lake or enjoy a cup of coffee or ice cream in the café at Kyrkstugan.

One of the most popular bathing spots is Nydalabad at the Nydala recreation area and campsite. Among other things, there is a bathing bridge and space in the grass to have a picnic. There are also tennis courts, beach volleyball, a barbecue area, a playground for children, parking and a changing room. Next to the Nydalabad there is also a heated outdoor swimming pool, Umelagun, with water slides, whirlpool and children's pool.

Ten Tops Lake Tavelsjö

If you're planning a winter holiday, Umeå is definitely worth considering. There are many winter activities in the area. There's everything from cross-country skiing to alpine skiing, dog sledding and, if you're lucky, some magical northern lights to spice up the experience.

The area around Tavelsjö north of Umeå has a lot of winter experiences. Let Tio Toppar Tavelsjö take you out into the beautiful countryside, where you will of course visit the ten mountain peaks, Tio Toppar, in the area. There is skiing and hiking where you can follow different trails up through the terrain with different levels of difficulty. However, all the tours have the picturesque scenery in common.

The paths have a length of between 0.5 and 2.1 km each way and gradients of between 42 and 165 metres.
