Zugspitze
Explore Germany's highest mountain, Zugspitze, during a
fantastic holiday in Southern Germany! The ride up starts with a cog railway from
the station in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and once you're at the 2,600 metre
plateau, it's time to enjoy some fantastic hiking, or grab a bite to eat
a bite to eat in the restaurant. Once you've got used to the climate, you can choose to
to the top (2,962 metres) with the Gletscherbahn lift. The way down is
by a second lift, which offers floor-to-ceiling views.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen
If you take a stroll through Ludwigstrasse, you can see the art of painter Heinrich Bickel at Gasthof Fraundorfer.
Not far away you will find the Werdenfelser Heimatmuseum, where you can get an insight into the history of the area. The museum is housed in a former merchant's farm. The area offers a wealth of leisure activities. You can play mini golf, tennis, bowling, squash, go kayaking or horse riding.
An 18-hole golf course is also located in the area. If you enjoy skiing and ski holidays, there are several ski resorts in the area. You can go to Zugspitz, for example. Here it is possible to rent skis and enrol in the local ski school. The area is suitable for both skiing and cross-country skiing,
Neuschwanstein Castle
Visit the fascinating Schloss Neuschwanstein, one of Bavaria's landmarks. The castle dates back to the 19th century and is said to have inspired the Cinderella Castle in the world-famous Disney film Cinderella. The castle has subsequently also been given its place in Disneyland.
Today the castle is one of the most visited castles in Europe and is visited by around 1.4 million people a year.
In summer, around 6000 people pass through the castle's rooms every day, which were originally intended for just one resident.
Stamserhaus Museum
Stamserhaus dates back more than 700 years and is believed to be the oldest farm in Tyrol. Over the years parts of the building have been destroyed, probably by fire, and later rebuilt. The house was mainly used as a tax office, where the peasants of the area had to pay taxes to the princes of Stams. Today the house is a museum, where you can see an exhibition of Christmas crabs. The world's oldest Christmas crib organisation, founded in 1860, is based in the town of Wenns, where the Stamserhaus is located. The exhibition includes over 40 different handmade Christmas cribs. The museum is usually open on Wednesdays and Sundays, but it is recommended that you check the opening times before your visit.
Ötztaler Ache
Those of you who like water can take a trip on the Ötztaler Ache, where it is possible to river raft or kayak on the 35 km long river. If you look up towards the mountain peaks, you can often see the wahogs jumping off the cliff sides and paragliding down to the valley in their parachutes, every summer the sky is filled with parachutes in the colours of the rainbow and it is impressive to see the air between the mountains, being filled by these wahogs.
Linderhof Castle
Visit the magnificent royal palace, Linderhof, during your
near Munich or Zugspitze. The Bavarian building has
inspiration from the world-famous Palace of Versailles in France
among some of Germany's most magnificent architectural gems. It offers
guided tours of the palace and its park, created by Ludwig II's
landscaper back in 1868.
