Vicenza
The beautiful Italian city of Vicenza is often a little overlooked as Venice, understandably, overshadows most of its neighbouring cities. But Vicenza is Italy's third-largest city and is characterised by beautiful streets and impressive Renaissance buildings.
If you're just on a quick visit, you can see the city's three main attractions within a couple of hours. The main attractions are all UNESCO-listed and include the beautiful Roman Catholic Church, Monte Berico, the Renaissance Basilica Palladiana and not least the impressive Palazzo Chiericati, also built during the Renaissance.
If you have a little more time in the city, there's plenty else to see and the city's tourist office can assist with more exciting sights and opportunities.
Cappella degli Scrovegni
Cappella delgi Scrovegni is a magnificent church - and museum - in Padua, built in the early 14th century. It may not look like much from the outside, but inside you'll find some stunning frescoes painted by some of art's mastodons, including Giotto, Guariento and Mantegna. Giotto was the great painter and architect of his time and was responsible for much of the church's interior decoration. Together, the many beautiful frescoes depict parts of both the New and Old Testaments.
Padova
Go on a wonderful summer holiday to Padova and find cheap hotels for the trip at Risskov. The beautiful university city is located between Verona and Venice and is a central hub for the entire Veneto region. As you walk around the city, you will quickly discover that Padova offers plenty of history from three very different eras. It is believed that the city was founded up to 1,000 years before our era, and this is borne out when you visit the ruins of the ancient Roman arena, for example. At the same time, there are numerous medieval features, such as the characteristic city walls, the university building and the many large city squares. There are also traces of more recent history, not least in relation to Mussolini's time and the period around WWII. World War. A great place for a family holiday and there are plenty of opportunities to find child-friendly hotels for the trip.
Orto Botanico di Padova
Visit the world's oldest botanical garden in Padua! The garden was founded in 1545, and although botanical gardens have been created before that, the Orto Botanico di Padova is the only garden with such a long history that is still in existence today. The garden is connected to the city's university, the Università degli Studi di Padova, where Galileo Galilei himself worked as a mathematics professor and which is the world's third oldest university and Italy's second oldest. The garden was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1997.
