Tjörn

Discover the beautiful island of Tjörn, Sweden's seventh largest island, located south of Orust in Bohuslän. It is a naturally created island separated from Orust and the mainland by several fjords and sounds. Pater Noster Lighthouse

On a car holiday to Marstrand in Sweden, it is also possible to take a boat trip and visit the old Pater Noster lighthouse, which is located in the sea, just 5.5 km outside Marstrand. The lighthouse was first lit in 1868, but it was closed again in 1977. After a thorough renovation, the lighthouse now looks like new and is open to visitors. The boat trip to the lighthouse takes you through the beautiful landscape.

Stenungsund

Stenungsund is located 5 km north of Gothenburg. Stenungsund offers many activities, close to the sea. Here you can enjoy a swim in the sea, beautiful cliffs, fresh seafood and several shops and restaurants. Stenungsund Guest Harbour is a popular destination where you can go sailing and enjoy good food at the brewery restaurant.

At Stenungsund there is a lot to experience. Visit Stenunge town, an old medieval town that now serves as a cultural park with farms from the 18th century. Orust

Orust, Sweden's third largest island, lies in the middle of Bohuslän, and here you will find several interesting places such as Gullholmen, Käringön, Mollösund and Malö. The island offers beautiful island landscapes and attracts many tourists in summer. Here you can swim among the rocks, explore old fishing communities, hike along cultural trails or in the forest and much more. At the harbour market in Henån you will find the Kajutan Culture House, which has tourist information, a library and an art gallery. Nösund

Nösund is a small community on Orust in Bohuslän. Located by the sea and surrounded by mountains, this small village offers the opportunity for total relaxation in stunning scenery. The Bohuslän archipelago is beautiful and attracts many travellers who come here to relax and swim. The village has a gallery, shops, wellness centre, tennis court, bathhouse and spa. The peaceful nature invites you for excursions and there are several good hiking trails.

Kungälv

Go on a family holiday to Sweden and discover the exciting history of Västra Götaland. Visit the small town whose long history stretches back to the 10th century. According to historian Snorre Sturlasson, this was the site of the Epiphany in 1101, but back then the town was called Kongahälla. In the 1600s, the wooden village burned down after being moved closer to the fortress. Marstrand

Marstrand is a beautiful little town in the archipelago. The town is spread over two islands. The islands are connected by a ferry. Carlsten Fortress

On a driving holiday to Sweden you can visit the beautiful Carlsten Fortress, located on the highest point of Marstrand Island. It was King Carl X Gustav who decided to build the fortress and it has stood on the island for more than 300 years. Guided tours are organised during the high season, but it is also possible to walk around on your own. Here you can take a step back in time and learn more about the fortress's interesting history. There are also big fortress games where you can see marching soldiers, drummers and cannons.

Visit the promenade and the Uddevalla bridge

Don't miss a stroll along the beautiful 9.3 km long promenade that runs from Lindesnäs to "Skalbankarna". The road, which is completely car-free, won the "Beautiful Roads Award" in 2009. A special kilometre of the road is paved with wood and called the Uddevalla Bridge. When the bridge was inaugurated and the ribbon had to be cut, the world record for "ribbon cutting" was broken.

Lysekil

Visit Lysekil on a self-drive holiday to Sweden. The town is located in Bohuslän and is the main town in Lysekil municipality, Västra Götalands län in Sweden. House of the Sea

On a cheap summer holiday or a self-drive holiday on the Swedish south coast, a must is a visit to Havets Hus, a saltwater aquarium in Lysekil, where you can experience life in the North Sea and meet hundreds of fascinating species. Havets Hus is one of Bohuslän's most popular destinations with around 40 aquariums and plenty of exciting activities such as seal safaris and beach school.

Bohus Museum of Vicarage

The name Vikarvet refers to the area of Viken, which includes present-day Bohuslän and the area around Olsofjorden. The association was founded in 1915 and the museum displays artefacts from Bohuslän's coastal industries, such as the preservative, stone, fishing and maritime industries, as well as a number of fine model ships and ship paintings. In addition to the museum building, there are furnished fishermen's cottages with boathouses from the beginning of the 19th century. Discover the old open fishing boat, "Frifararen", which is on display in the area. The museum celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015.

The Paddan Boats

Find a cheap holiday in Sweden at Risskov and get away on adventures in Gothenburg. A great way to experience the city is to take a guided tour on the Paddan boats and see Gothenburg from the water. The Paddan boats are hop-on-hop-off boats that take you around the canal system and harbour. The boats are available in the warmer seasons, but there are also special departures around Christmas.
