Peschiera del Garda
Located right on Lake Garda, this small town is a gem for the more romantically inclined. But it is also a town ready for families, with a great atmosphere, full of magical nooks and crannies, small and cosy streets with shops and traders in a tangle.
The lakeside location is a big plus, and it won't be long before the family is settled on one of the small terraces with a few cool drinks on the table and a magnificent view of the southern shores of Lake Garda.
Peschiera is one of the most characteristic Italian towns along Lake Garda. Surrounded by small canals and with a historic centre enclosed by walls, Peschiera offers everything you would expect from a small, cosy Italian town.
From Peschiera del Garda it is also easy to continue by boat and visit other towns along the shores of Lake Garda.
Gardaland
Italy's largest amusement park, Gardaland, can easily entertain you for a whole day! Plenty of rides, dolphin shows, restaurants and much more. This is a good place to go if you have children and childlike souls with you on your holiday!
Parco Giardino Sigurta
Visit the impressive 600,000 m² Parco Giardino Sigurtà , located a few kilometres south of Lake Garda. The park is a colourful experience with a multitude of fragrant flower beds, beautiful trees, shrubs and small lakes. Try your hand at the 2500 m² maze and see who finds their way out first. Children will also want to visit the cute animals on the small farm in the park.
The park is typically open March to November, but be sure to check the opening hours.
Sirmione
Sirmione, at the very tip of the Benaco peninsula, which is located at the southernmost end of Lake Garda. Visit the Catullus Grottoes and the ruins of one of the largest Roman villas in the north of Italy. The famous villa is said to have belonged to the Roman poet, Caius Valerius Catullus, and it was here that he wrote some of his beautiful poems about, among other things, the influence that the beautiful place had on him. Take a walk along the beautiful paths and smell the cypresses, olive trees and magnolias that adorn the area.
Verona
Verona is known for its medieval houses, which characterize the cityscape. Furthermore, it is also the place where Shakespeare's famous work Romeo and Juliet takes place on the famous balcony. Verona is also known for the old colosseum from the 15th century.
Parco del Mincio
Named after the river that runs through the park, the Mincio, this beautiful and green 'nature spot' is a sought-after place to relax, enjoy nature, or be brave and take the bike ride from Mantua - Peschiera, along the river Mincio, it must be said that there is also asphalt as a surface on parts of the stretch.
The park is rich in architectural and artistic works, and here Santa Maria delle Grazie with its unique style should certainly be mentioned, as well as the hunting lodge at Bosco della Fontana. There are many adventures waiting for you in this large park, so be sure to bring the kids.
Mantova
South of Lake Garda lies the medieval pearl of Mantua. The historic centre of the city has been carefully preserved and the Dukes' impressive palace and beautiful cathedral are well worth a visit. There is also a lively market once a week.
Mozart made his debut in Mantua at the age of 13, while the city was under Austrian rule. Mantova was also the place where Pavarotti made his debut. Verdi's opera Rigoletti is set in the city, and Rigoletto's house is proudly displayed here.
Mantova offers a wonderful atmosphere, both inside the medieval city walls and outside on the green spaces of the three lakes that surround Mantova. Mantova's history dates back to Etruscan times. In the Middle Ages, the city flourished under the rule of the Gonzaga ducal family, who ruled the city from the 14th century to the 17th century. During this time the buildings were created that today characterise Mantova's cityscape. The heart of the city is Piazza Sordello with the Cathedral on the north side and the Palace on the east side consisting of two buildings, Magna Domus and Palazzo del Capitano.
The Ducal Palace with the "Camera degli Sposi" was painted by Andrea Mantegna between 1465 and 1474.
Mantova is located on the Mincio River, which leaves the lake at Peschiera del Garda. Take a nice bike ride along the river and enjoy the good bike paths and the beautiful views.
Palazzo Te is located in the city of Mantua and was built in 1524-34 for Federico II Gonzaga. Today the palace is used as a museum, where you can visit, among other things, the permanent Egyptian exhibition with over 500 Egyptian works brought to Italy by Mantuan Giuseppe Acerbi, who was consul in Egypt from 1826 to 1834.
You can also see a permanent art exhibition with 19 works by Federico Zandomeneghi and 13 works by Armando Spadini. This collection was donated to the museum by the Mondadori family in 1974 and has been part of the museum's permanent collection since 1983.
