Located on Stephansplatz in the heart of Vienna's Historic City Centre, St Stephen's Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral dating from 1147. Today, the church is Vienna's most important religious building, welcoming almost 3 million visitors each year. The cathedral's spectacular roof is laid with glazed ceramic tiles, also known as majolica, and makes for quite a sight.
While you're in the area, don't miss visiting the beautiful church of Rangersdorf, a late Gothic building. The church was started at the beginning of the 9th century, but has undergone many reconstructions. Take a look inside the church, but pay particular attention to the tranquil atmosphere that surrounds it.
St Cäciliakirche is a little Gothic gem. Don't miss the Gothic wooden ceiling, which dates back to around 1500, the frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries and the frescoes on the outer wall from the 15th century. Also worth mentioning is the fine pulpit in the church.
The beautiful Salzburg Cathedral, built in the Baroque style and completed in 1628, is beautifully situated on the Domplatz square in the old town of Salzburg. The cathedral has a beautiful facade with two towers and a very high dome. It houses a museum with a large collection of church art and paintings. It is definitely worth a visit.
