Southern Sweden

Discover colourful southern Sweden by car

We can offer plenty of great deals when you choose to go on a driving holiday in southern Sweden, and that certainly includes offers for families with children. It's easy to get around by car thanks to a good road network, usually surrounded by rolling meadows, green forests and glorious scenery that will accompany you on your trip. Götaland is part of southern Sweden and includes Skåne, Blekinge, Halland, Småland, Västergötland, Bohuslän, Dalsland, Östergötland, Gotland and Öland and here Risskov offers a wide range of hotel packages.

Skåne is a good place to start your car tour. It is not far from Copenhagen and offers a large variety of experiences. Explore the vast Kullen Nature Reserve, with its magnificent and picturesque scenery. There are many hiking trails and Kullen itself stretches 187 metres at its highest point and is an 8 km long granite mountain. Söderåsen National Park is located a little inland, just north of Röstånga, and is part of Northern Europe's largest protected deciduous forest. There are plenty of good hiking trails through the beech forests and the beautiful heather and meadow areas. Also stop by the famous Flickorna Lundgrens Kaffestuga and enjoy a cup of coffee while the kids take a dip on some of the child-friendly beaches. If you want to combine your driving holiday with beach and sun, the Swedish Riviera at Halland is an excellent place. There are lovely beaches such as Tylösand, Skrea and Apelviken, perfect for a sunny day with sand between your toes. Lund's famous and well-visited cathedral from the 1100s also deserves a mention.

Continue your driving holiday eastwards towards Blekinge, which also has beautiful areas and plenty of space in nature to romp around. But Småland and Öland also have plenty of experiences and exciting sights to offer. The varied landscapes are broken by large beautiful forests, mountains and tranquil lakes, where it is possible to catch a glimpse of Sweden's wild animals such as moose, wolves and beavers. It will certainly also pay to drive past Kalmar, where both the castle and the new art museum are a treat.

Explore the beautiful scenery of the archipelago or head further inland, where the forests dominate and the many lakes glisten in the sun. Enjoy the beautiful Småland countryside, Åsnen National Park and Astrid Lindgren's World as well as High Chaparral, the western-inspired amusement park in Kulltorp.

Southern Sweden offers many exciting experiences. There are also cities with a vibrant atmosphere, and both Halmstad, Kalmar and Gothenburg can offer delicious food, great cultural experiences and of course shopping for all ages. Discover the old Swedish towns with the idyllic Swedish red wooden houses. If you have children with you, a trip to Astrid Lindgren's Vimmerby, where the story of Pippi Longstocking is set, is definitely worth a visit.
