Northern Germany destination image

Go on an adventure in Northern Germany in your own car

Discover Northern Germany in your own car and have a lots of great family experiences, at your own pace. Plan a summer or winter driving holiday and explore child-friendly Northern Germany. Pack the car and start your trip to where white beaches, cultural cities, wellness, beautiful castles and good food await, as well as, of course, plenty of experiences for all ages.

There are many possible destinations in northern Germany, and all year round there is a variety of activities on offer, both in the cities and in the countryside. Nature offers unique opportunities for the more active holidaymaker, and even if the driving holiday takes place in your own car, there is always an opportunity to stretch your legs on a bike ride. Otherwise, remember to pack your walking boots and discover the many scenic nature reserves. The Wadden Sea on the west coast is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and not without reason. Pay a visit to the aquarium in Tönning and learn more about the beautiful secrets of the Wadden Sea.

If you started in Lübeck in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, stop by the small seaside resort of Haffkrug, which has some lovely white beaches. But it's the tour of Hansa Park that will probably be remembered best. There are plenty of rides and attractions for the whole family, with a theme park and fun games. But whether it's summer or winter, northern Germany is packed with family fun.The winter season offers traditional and fragrant Christmas markets, and just south of Hamburg you can ski, indoors admittedly, but there's plenty of room to let loose. Both Rostock and Lübeck are interesting places and there are several idyllic towns, such as Flensburg, Wismar, Rügen. Sparkling Hamburg is worth the whole experience. There are museums, concerts, sporting events and plenty of good beer and food.

Ready to continue towards Berlin? A true metropolis of turmoil and history. Berlin must be visited at least once in your life and preferably more. Great shops of all kinds, great restaurants and nightclubs, so there's certainly plenty for both kids and adults. Visit Checkpoint Charlie and Museum Island, home to unique collections of architecture and art. Or take a break at the top of the 368-metre Fernsehturm, which offers excellent views of Berlin. But there are many other exciting cities in northern Germany. If you're heading for Berlin, the Van der Valk Resort is about 100 km south of Rostock. A really entertaining experience with activities in the lovely water park with children's pool with slides, wildriver and tunnel slides as well as an outdoor and 3 indoor spa bubble baths. The perfect place to take a break on your car tour of Northern Germany.
